Sorry for the delay...weather here knocked out the internet (and the power too for a little bit!)...
Thunder's rolling outside at the moment but I seem to have the net back so will work on a post now...
Great to have you back Brit, nice first post, very detailed. hopefully this well get rolling now. Um should be lots of fun, wonder if mother well sell you off to Warin to piss off Hanna.
I'm going to need some idea on how "magical" your fairy is. Rules etc. how far out there are we talking. Do you have an idea on his magical abilities? What he can and can't do? Or are you making it up as you go?
If you don't want everyone to know, so you can still do the "yes" and "no" bit when folks make demands on your character, you can just PM or IM me your "limits".
According to the Disney story, Cinderella 3, A twist in Time (I didn't watch it, but I read a synopsis) the Fairy godmother drops her wand and the evil stepmother takes it, allowing her to go back in time and change events.
So, if we go with that, then fairies have just about unlimited powers.
I wouldn't imagine going so far. Why? Because of all the paperwork. New spreadsheets and document signing, excuse documents, Sr22 s, TPS reports and even then you could get hauled up before the Ministry of magical meddling and bemuddlement. No fun for a fairy.
So, there is usually a single wish per customer. This comes down from the wish upon a star department. If someone wishes upon a star, they get in touch with one of our OnStar service providers, and your fairy is reconnected with you in just a few moments.
(wishing upon a star is not the only way to get this service. There are also fair rings, four leaf clovers, good luck charms, or being in certain places where they play)
Of course, knowing the name of a fairy is quite different. Fairies themselves are free for the most part. They have a job, but still have freedom of choice. If... say, an evil step mother were to wish upon a star for all of her daughters to be once more virgins so she could sell them again to a high bidder, the fairy who is called in for that request can easily say no.
But, if a person has a fairies name, then it is quite different. It is like a genie inside of a lamp. Their names are very important to them, it is the harness of all their power. Which is why the Rumplestilskin Law was introduced, some 86 years ago. Now, even fairies themselves do not know their own names.
The fairy must do whatever he has to in order to get his name back. He does not have a choice in granting whatever the person wants.
Realistically a fairies powers are not that strong though. They can make things appear, or disappear, move things around, create magical items (magical like a bag of turnips that never gets empty, not like a wand of endless wishes).
Money, gold, love potions, fairy dust in order to fly (think happy thoughts).
Then we have more premium packages. There is the Pauper into Prince premium gold package. This is an incredible deal, it comes with noble steed, finest wardrobe in the land, mysterious uknown country of origin that hardly anyone will question, air of confidence, two maidservants, and 300 gold coins of spending money.
There is the transformation package. This is a 6 day 7 night stay at any destination of your choice. Ocean, forest, desert, even frozen tundra! You pick the animal you most wish to be, and the week long transformation begins. Enjoy the fierce strength of a tiger, the swimming ease of a dolphin, quivering heights of an eagle. Don't worry about predators, nothing dangerous will happen, aside from dangerous amounts of fun! Even souvenirs for when you return (rocks, sticks, mud, grass)
There is a meats around the world package. Sushi, cutlery meats, fried, baked, smoked, flame broiled, grilled, and sauteed. Even exotic meats such as seal, panda, minx, fox, condor, or even human (no animals were harmed in the making of your meal, these are all magical synthetic meats made from pure soy extract).
The Freaky Friday package. Twenty four hours of soul switching madness. You're not you, you're someone else. And they are you! Ha ha, enjoy being someone else for a day. Turn into your boss and give yourself that raise you've always wanted. Become a police officer, ever wonder what it's like to shoot someone? Just do it! It's ok, because you're the police!
all right, now I'm just being silly. These are minor to medium enchantments, nothing very major.
Pooh said: If... say, an evil step mother were to wish upon a star for all of her daughters to be once more virgins so she could sell them again to a high bidder, the fairy who is called in for that request can easily say no.
I want to know: Hmmm... can I wish that Cinder's hymen be repaired and increased in strength following every time she has sex? Or am I just a vicious and kinky bastard?
pooh - - - I appreciate all that. It sorta answers the question I had in a round about, humorous, (sounds like you're making it up as you go) way. I guess we'll see what folks wish. If I feel it's over the top - like someone suddenly has the power of God and can start shooting lightning bolts from their fingertips - I'll let ya know.
I've not seen the newest Cinderella, though eventually I will. I have 3 kids ( 2 of which are girls ) One is a teenager already! (sorry off on a tangent there)
I don't mind the whole fantasy fairy stuff, it'll be fun and a lot of humor there, since your character is a young fairy and still blunders (according to your bio).
BadForm - - - You're not vicious - kinky - Yes.
Everyone - - - I'm out of town at the end of July the 24-27th.
Well, the last thing I want to do is make this a thread about the fairy and all the wishes he bestows upon people. IF anything he should be a funny and quirky secondary character.
And your question was a little vague, I could probably go on for hours about limitations and fairy powers, and don't think I could ever answer it in a satisfactory way. We're talking about magic here, so there will always be liberties taken and leaps of faith to jump.
A shame you're not familiar with D&D. They have a set magic system, and then I could tell you just what my limits would be (level 4 Druid, some summoning spells, augmenting, 4 spells per day, as well as unlimited cantrips I can perform)
But, other than that it's a wait and see what people ask for. I'm certainly not going to give people godlike powers. And I will take lots of liberties in the way you say your wish (like if you want me to make you a ham sandwich, lol, watch out) and muddle and befuddle my way around magic to my own heart's content.
