Anyone interested in a thread about a group of novice super heros?

Just come up with your own powers.

My character's power would be to unlock the latent x-factor gene in those that he touches, thus giving the team their powers.

I am tempted but I am having a tendency to disapear for months at a time now that Loa blood ended. But, I would enjoy a small role.

Speed's not too much of an issue with me, seeing as I am resorted to being an infrequent poster myself. :)

I'd like a back ground for the campaign world before I post a chacter that or maybe Kamal will inspire me. He makes fun chacters as I recall.

I would like one bit for BIO purposes is there a root to every ones super powers, a chemical or something, or is every ones origin based on a difrent experince.

OOH! Superheroes! I'll sign up! So, uh, like Cats said, is everyone going to have a similar origin on this, or can we develop our own?

I was leaning toward the idea that every normal person has the genetic potential to become super, but very few ever have it sparked into life. Be it by chemically stimulated, stimulated through stress, or otherwise. Experience doesn't always have to be a factor in what a persons powers become.

As for the world, its not overrun with super humans, in fact, its so uncommon at the start that you wouldn't see more than one superpowered being per state, or its equivelent.

Hmm, is it set in the real world.

New York, Chicago, LA, etc. or in finctional places like Gotham and Metropolis? And if fictional is it a difrent world or roughly ours?

sounds like xmen, i'll keep my eye on this and see if it perks my further interest.

I call Batman! I got the cool X-men. (On an unrelated note while waiting did you know Superman was originaly made to be a villain and the Joker was suposed to be killed off in his second or third comic.)

I supose my final question about the back ground is about powers. How strong are we going. Throwing fire balls, or flying, throwing fireballs, while rubing your belly and patting your head?

Superheros, You Bet!

Hey, what sort of background are you looking at developing? A dark one or a campy one or something else?

I'd love to play if you're serious about the sporatic poster allowance. Sporatic isn't really my goal, but more than two to three times a week at the moment is probably the most I can manage.

Meta powers

oOo... can I transmute elements? I don't want to change an object's shape, I mean can I change a substance from say, wood into metal, or ice into flesh.

I was also considering that she had just come into her powers and was a very shy and scared young lady, who didn't know who she should go talk with about it...

Hmmmm. I've always fancied playing a hero who could manipulate termerature...

Cats, I would like this thread to be set in a close representation of our real world, I'm thinking New York. No Gotham or Metropolis here.

Well, seeing as the X-men have what in my mind is the more realistic form of gaining their powers, yes, you're right Khadgar.

Cats, no pre-established superheros please, we need to come up with our own. As far as how powerful you want to be, you can be as powerful as someone like Magneto for all I care, but the catch is, if you think about it, the only two reasons he knows that he can do all the things he can do are that he has had at least a good two decades to practice and hone his powers, along with the schooling in such things as superconductivity, and all that highbrow scientific thought. Our characters will be gaining their powers because, at least this is my personal hope, of my character activating them with his own power. So, yes, you can be really powerful like magneto, but you wouldn't really know that you could do things like float in the air by changing the magnetism around your body right off the bat.

I was hoping for a blend Private_Label. If you would really like to play a character with a comedic super power (IE: Something along the lines of having the ability to see through pizza boxes...) By all means, or if you rather you had psionic blades protruding from your hands, thats fine too.

Imoen, I am, you can take your time, you sound like you'll be able to post more frequently than most actually. Welcome in.

Private_Label, thats fine with me, and good, I was hoping you would take to the idea of just having gained these powers, because, as I mentioned before, my character would be the one to 'trigger' them. How about this for an added concept to your idea though. If you turn flesh into something like steal, it is really steal, and what would happen if a real humanbeing's entire outer skin were turned to metal? I can't imagine it would feel too good, or that they would live very long after having had it happen... Or if their skin were turned to ice, and they were out in the sun, it would melt away, and they would be left in a state of full body flayedness, all their muscle tissue exposed to the elements, also resulting in death I would presume.

Screech, thats probably a good, fairly safe power to chose, but as a normal person, how much would you know about wind currents and how things like hurricanes work? Perhaps, if that is the kind of power you chose, it would be smart to learn about the inner workings of weather patterns and such.

So, what I am getting at (In a very long winded way *Sorry folks*) is that I would like to see super human powers applied in fairly realistic ways. If you have x-ray vision, you actually see in a moving x-ray, and run the risk of radiation poisoning those who are not protected from the powers unfortunate side effect.

Lastly, if each of you who would like to join could write about a paragraph of what sort of power(s) you would like to display, I would really appreciate it.

Here's mine:

Elliot Richards, life long sci fi geek finds one day that he has manifested the offbeat ability to stimulate the latent 'X-gene' in those that he touches when he slugs the school bully for taking his advanced science text book and ripping it apart. The boy suddenly turned into a liquid mess. (Later on, after many hours of questions from local police, Elliot was allowed to go home. It turned out that the effect wasn't permenent when the bully was found limping out of the janitors broom closet with with a metal water bucket stuck around his ankle.

For many years after this, Elliot was tormented for his freakish ability, along with the bully, somehow, they became friends though, and still are to this day. A day in which we find Elliot having risen above the pettiness of school day tortures and becoming a forthright and upstanding individual.

He has, with moneys he has put aside over the years, decided to form the worlds first super hero team, by calling up several of his old highschool classmates, under the pretence of holding an unofficial highschool reunion, and offering them the rare chance to become more than human in return for coming under contract to perform for a length of no less than five years as the earths premere defenders. (What can you say, Elliots a sci fi nerd, thats how he thinks...)

OK! Nice little bit of background y'got there Ravenloft. I'll do my best to put some down myself, but as my character will not have their "x-gene" active yet, it will be up until that point

Robert "Bob" Smith. At first glance a fairly average looking guy. Someone who would blend into any mass of people. However, he is a very solotary person and, even though he would fit in with almost any crowd, he prefers to keep to himself and, as such, is very quiet.

Going to the same school as Elliot Richards, Bob spoke to the self proclaimed sci-fi geek more than anyone else, having an almost kindred spirit. Although where Elliot always seemed to be knuckling down with his studies (and doing particularly well in the sciences), Robert tended to spend most of his time relaxing and playing games, not really taking his education seriously.

Luckilly for Robert, he was naturally intellegent and so was able to scrape through graduation. After that time, contact with his friends became sporadic at best, except with a girl called Ellaine Scott, who he went on to marry just 2 years later. Currently, he is holding down a job as an electric shop deputy manager.

----------

X-gene ability: Robert's X-gene, apon activation, will give him limited control over localised temperatures. At first, he will have little to no control over them, and they will be influenced by his mood. But as time goes by, and he understands the nature of his ability better, he will gain a more complete control. {localised area is about 10 meters / 30 feet}

alright, i'm in. i'll just need some time to think about a background, and an ability. i think with this group, i'll have a bit to think. *horray*

I "posted" two questions last night. But I was kicked offline before they were actually posted.

First is where are they located in the world, and secondly where is the school located.

Next question was are they a secret group or an open group? Debates on acting in the limits of the law and weather to stay below radar or not might be a good opening discusion in character as well.

I have an odd character in mind Raven I'll Pm you a rough idea to see if it is alright.

Excellent character Screech.

Any time Khadgar. :)

Elliot is located in New York, lets make it easy and say that the high school was in New York as well.

Elliot would lean toward being a secret force, only because he believes that each member should be allowed a personal life, and if it was a known super group, then we would be much like hollywood celebs, always being pestered where ever we go... But the cool thing about Elliot isthat he's open to discussion.

Name: Alexis Durran; Former Name: Alexander Durran
Short Name: Alex
Sex: Female; Originaly Male
Hieght 5'6"
Weight: 130
Eyes: Brown, blue with contacts
hair: Just past shoulders, straight, naturaly brown, dyed red.
build: Slim with slight curve at the waist and small breasts.

Bio: Bio: Alex felt out of place growing up and tended to keep to himself. He was often picked on for his dislike his strange way of behaving, his wealthy family, and his dislike of sports. He was surprisingly fit despite his dislike of sports, having a passion for running hiking and camping. Still high school was a rough time for him, just as it for many children. In a time most people are trying to establish an identity he was confused and ousted by his peers. So he stayed quiet in school except for lunch which he ate at the sci-fi nerd tables, with geeks such as Robert Smith and Elliot Richards. Besides the assorted geeks he seldom talked to any one except his first crush Elaine Scott.

The year after school he and his parents moved to California where he had his second crush, this time on a man named Cecil Temple. His parents reacted in a way he disliked and some what expected prompting him to return to New York where he figured out what was wrong with his life. He was a girl trapped in a mans body, and he wasn’t going to remain that way. He began the long process of seeking gender reassiment therapy, involving cross-dressing several sessions of surgery, electrolysis, vocalizing classes, and changing his appearance from the man Alexander to the woman Alexis.

While this was going on he spent time in school to become a professional wine consultant, working in a back room as a semi manager at a furniture store, and occasionally talking to Elaine and her new husband Robert. Now that all this is done she is able to start paying off debts and looking forward to a normal life as a girl.

Power: Repair: once her power is activated she will be able to repair objects by attaching pieces back togeather. The power may further be used to treat wounds with development but it only repairs what is there doing nothing for shock, blood loss, or missing limbs.

Screech I hope you don't mind me weaving my character arounds yours. It is up to you to decide when the last time Alex talked to you weather it was before or after the surgery and weather or not she mentioned it to you.

I believe Raven is taking the suprised to find out aproach.

"Ike" Poston

Hermodike "Ike" Poston

Ht: 5' 5"
Wt; 145 lbs
eyes: blue/gray
hair; medium length kinky copper red,
Caucasian -pale skin that tends to freckle easily (think Irish/Scottish background).
Build curvy – tending toward thick set.

Bio: She's a brash girl who often was often unintentionally blunt but honest. She was a bookish girl who was accepted in most circles though she belonged in none.

Named after the mythological wife of King Midas Ike grew up with her share of name calling ("dyke" the most frequent one). Since she tended to not react to it, which garnered a bit of respect from others. Growing up she played as easily with the "odd" kids as with the popular ones, the poor as easily as the rich, the athletes as well as the bookworms. Being from a divorced middle class family she spent summers and weekends shuttling between parents often acting as the buffer between her younger brother and those they had to deal with while traveling without a guardian.

In high school she ate mainly with the poets and writers, but would easily be accepted around the jocks, the preppies, or the geeks, depending on who managed to get her attention first. While the others around her were testing the waters of romance and dating Ike was more interested in studying and learning anything she could get her hands on. While she enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked, she was less successful in putting things back together so that they worked. The one exception being children's' toys, which she discovered while working in a daycare part time during college. She currently has no significant others in her life. She currently works as a Chemical Engineer for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation at Nine Mile Point in Oswego, New York (not familiar with New York, is this OK?)

Power: Catalyst. She can cause reactions to move forward rapidly. This goes from minor things such as causing explosive devises to go off early, to spontaneous combustion in wood, to Radioactive Decay (speeding it up, causing the loss/gain of neutrons/protons to move something from one element to another).

Will this do Raven?

I'll play, can I be:

Name: Ryan Cartwright

Ryan is remembered difficultly, mostly because he did little. He did well in all his classes, but was little more than a A/B student. He hung out with the bookworms and sci-fi geeks, but not enough to really be considered friends with any of them. He spent most of his time wandering around or sitting somewhere, reading a book. Even during classes.

He kept little contact with fellow students, had a short college stint, and now works in the NYC Library. He's kept himself active, but not enough to avoid a little fat. He wears glasses, and has brown hair and eyes. He's very intelligent, and could probably have graduated top of the class if he'd ever bothered to do the little things like study or pay attention in class. Quiet and withdrawn, the only people he ever really seemed chatty near were Hermodike or Robert, and those were for reasons no one could know.

A mild author, he's published two collections of short stories that have done well enough, but not enough so that anyone in the group is likely to have read them.

Power: Some people are blessed with powers they can control, other people's latent x-genes do little more than consume them. Ryan's power will likely cause quite the bang, as his powers turns him from a mild-mannered, and somewhat boring, man into ...whatever he is. Made up mostly of a steel-looking metal, Ryan has seized upon the Holy Grail of Immortality and Invunrability. Of course, he's lost hearing, taste, smell, a sense of touch, and speech to gain it. Without a mouth, and yea, even most of the organic systems he took so for granted, Ryan is invunerable to heat or any blade. Or course, he's still got the same strength of a "mostly" fit man who spends most his days reading, and could probably easilly be defeated using something heavy and placing it atop him. Unlike other powers, this physical mutation is non-refundable, non-controlable, and permanent, too.

I want to play a character that says, "Hey, cool, I wanna be a hero!" and spends the rest of his life wondering what he's done to himself. Superhero name? "The Amazing Shield!" That's right. No laser-death rays for the others to worry about, just throw him in the front to deal with all the traps and such. Of course, how useful is he in a pinch? "Damn it. Only the Amazing Shield is left! And we don't need someone who can wade through lava, just someone with a decent left hook, or some karate skills! I knew we should have hired Batman!"

Hey, I don't mind at all! I think that, to add a little supprise to Robert, he could have last spoken to Alexander just before he went through the gender alteration, but knowing of his desire to do so. That sound ok?

Name: Daniel Carter
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180
Hair/eyes: Brown/brown
Skin color: Medium brown

Description: Daniel Carter was a natural athlete from a young age. He was always into sports and did well in them. He was a very active child and that continued through High School, where he joined the track team and basketball team. Once he graduated, he decided to use his athletic prowess for another purpose and went out to Hollywood to become a stuntman. He loves the adrenaline rush of doing car chases, fight scenes, and things like that. Even though he works all over the place, he keeps a home in Westchester County, NY where he lives with a wife, Janet, and daughter, Kelise.

Power: Daniel's powers are going to be increased agility/reflexes. It will work much like Spiderman, but without the wall-crawling and danger sense.
