guess trump's buds in the liquor export-to-Canada business might be a tad miffed... tariffs be damned, Ontario is just pulling the plug.

Ontario will pull all American alcohol from its government-run liquor shelves beginning Tuesday in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on Canadian imports.

Outlets of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario will also take U.S. products out of its catalog so other retailers can’t order or restock those items, according to a Sunday statement by Premier Doug Ford.

“Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore,” Ford said. “There’s never been a better time to choose an amazing Ontario-made or Canadian-made product.”

The LCBO is one of the largest wholesalers of alcohol, selling more than 1.1 billion liters of alcohol products in Ontario in 2023. According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity, Canada primarily imports hard liquor from America with an estimated $320 million in sales. The U.S.’s second main export destination for liquor as of October 2024 is Canada, with a $25.9 million trade value, according to the OEC.

In a statement provided to CNBC, the LCBO said it will be stopping all sales of U.S. alcohol products online and in stores “indefinitely,” adding that it is the “importer of record” for all American alcohol into Ontario. LCBO currently lists more than 3,600 products from 35 U.S. states, the statement added.

I’m surprised the Canadian government hasn’t asked all patriotic Canadians to remove the Xitter, Facebook and Instagram apps because the owners bankroll Donnie. And ask all patriotic Canadians to stop ordering from Amazon for the same reason.

btw, it's not just Ontario:

the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is pulling all USA alcohol from its shelves, Tuesday, and the British Columbia Liquor Distribution branch has received orders not to buy any alcohol from American 'red' states while, at the same time, removing 'red' state alcohol from their shelves.

for trump and his buds, it's not a problem... not unless his buds are in the export/import/production of alcohol businesses

Canadians and Mexicans are united in their fight against the US.

American products are going to rot.

The government doesn't need to ask. The people are already acting. My Sirius subscription will end in Feb.

would they ever give up Amazon?

Funny. I chat with a Canadian friend on here and he says he goes South of de border to get his booze?🤔
I’ll report back as I haven’t chatted in a week or so.

Is someone going to tell this moron ☝🏻 that comparing a tax rebellion IN the US isn’t the same as tariffs on Canada and Mex?

Trump is the master of blaming Others.

He just announced a National Sales Tax.

But is calling it a Tariff so you can blame Others for it.

Ha ha ha!

How is this relevant to Ontario deciding to ditch US whiskey? Do you really think we here in the US give a dam if Ontario chooses to drink second-rate booze?

Point being, the rebellion wasn't raised by whiskey drinkers -- it was raised by whiskey makers who saw the new excise tax as cutting their profit margin. And so does this pointless trade war with Canuckistan. Don't rouse the liquor biz, Donald!

If Ontario wants to hurt the USA they should just turn off the electricity exports for a day or two. Best to choose a cold day. Looking at the network NY and Minnesota would be the worst affected, though the states in between would also suffer.

Maybe while they're at it they can block Fentanyl and illegals coming the other way.......

“Mr Irrelevant” JD Vance says there are three ways to stop drug trafficking, and his first is “ask nicely”. Asking nicely is a terrific way to stop drug trafficking. 😆 JD never got around to way number three. President Musk probably told him to clean some toilets.

Someone needs to tell butterfatz that we here in the US don't give a shit if Canada goes all in on prohibition.
LOL. And the Mohawks will make a bundle, just like they did with cigarettes.

Boats full of Jack Daniels from Akwesasne running down the St Lawrence to Kahnawake - I can see it now. LOL. My husband has a Mohawk buddy from his USMC days, lives in the Kahnawke reservation in Montreal. Been there and heard the stories. LOL. All Trudeau and Ford are gonna do with this one is make a lot of Mohawks rich.
