Just a general question..

If you have one, where do you host it? .. Recently I've thought about the possibility of starting one, and the only hosting site I see that's free is blurty.com ..

Second question... do you know if any of these sites make it so the journal can be completely private.

For instance...... blurty says its private, or its only for friends to see,.. but if anyone who knows blurty simply types the right url in, they can see the journal no problem.

You can make your blurty entirely private so that NO ONE can read the entries you don't want them to. I'm not sure, however, if you have to do it for each entry or not, as I haven't looked into that. You can make up any old name for that matter. If no one knows your name, how can they find you?

I have one on my professional web site where I post intermittant journal entries about various tech things I did or learned that day. I haven't updated it for months.

i use xanga.com and you can make it private or public....you can even have it public with private posts. just go to http://www.xanga.com is free. Check it out and see if it's what you're looking for. :p

You can set the whole journal on Blurty to be friends only or private and anything you post after having done that will automatically post that way.

Any of the entries you made before that will have to go back and be edited :D

Ahhh. I have been relying on setting the settings for each entry.
I'll scurry over there tomorrow. It's late here. Thanks for the insight. :)

No problemo, chick. You're best off doing it through the admin control panel but I'll explain that to you when it's not late if you need it :p

I haven't looked at it specifically, but when I'm logged into my tripod account, they advertise a blog service.

I've thought about doing the same thing... or even starting a blog... but not sure if I would have the time to actually write everyday. Plus I wouldn't want just anyone to be able to read it.

Thank you everyone for your responses.. I'll check these other places out.
I did see that on blurty you can switch it to friends only, and make certain posts on it private only... but it still makes me nervous that anyone with the url can still get into it it seems. I'll keep doing a bit of digging though.
I think the whole online journal is a pretty cool idea.

I had a blurty....I decided that I vent to much for it to be available to the general public. I now just have a word file...and the blurt threads for things I dont mind sharing.

Not to worried about the vent thing because I don't want it accessable to public... but having it online makes me more comfortable than the word file just cause if anything happens to my computer, I know its still there. :)

I started a LiveJournal before they clipped their new members by making them get a code from another member in order to get a journal. It serves its purpose for me, and I like that I don't have to go to a website to update.

But it's a pain in the arse to get a permission code, I think I have one still... I don't know.

I have a shitload of codes from when I was a paid member there. I'm stingy with giving them out. LOL.
