Well we brought Maggelin in to have him speyed the other day. He came through the surgery well, although he slept most of the rest of the day.

Now he is mightily upset. Not because h has lost that bit of flesh nearest and dearest to him. (I don't think he has realized this yet.) but because I have to give him Anti-Biotics twice a day. The Anti-biotics are an Amoxicilin Suspension, which is a liquide that must taste terrible. H does not like m forcing him to take this.

giving kitty meds

I learned from a vet that for cats ...you have to cock their head back and put the syringe all the way back in the throat...(boy this technique sounds familiar.) but this is for real,...ts not like giving meds to a dog.

:p

Bright pink liquid? If it is, then it's the exact same thing the pediatrician gives to a two year old child. Bubble gum flavored, too. I know because I asked my vet when I had to give it to my kittens after their cosmetic surgeries.

Yeah, cats are finiky under the best circumstances...make sure to check your shoes for pressents for a little while ;)

Aren't little males neutered and females spayed? I could imagine he was an upset kitty if he was spayed.

Editted: Nevermind. I guess it's the same thing, different word. I write blond for men and blonde for women too.

Yep, it's a bright pink liquid. (No I haven't taste tested it.)

Magi doesn't like it.

He is the only cat I have run into that can spit accuratly.

As for tilting his head back, good luck. He fights it every second with every claw and his teeth.

Have you tried inserting the syringe at the corner of his mouth? I have an old blond tabby (who I don't dare trim his claws because he gets so nasty) that I do that way when he gets sick. He takes the medicine like that 85-90% of the time. Putting his head back like what was suggested before only made his "spit back" more projectile. That's how I know the pink stuff tastes like bubble gum.

It was pretty funny. I don't know why my cat complained. It tasted all right to me. ;)

Neonurotic is right - use the back corner of his mouth and squirt just a little at a time, not the whole amount at once, so he cant spit at you. Also, HE was neutered. If you blow on his nose, he'll swallow and lick. Another trick sometimes used is to put it in peanut butter and put small amounts on his paw - the strong taste may cover up some of the bubble gum flavor (not usually appealing to kitties) and he'll lick his paw to clean it, but keep him closely confined so he can't rub it off. Good luck!

your vet can give you Amoxecillin in liver flavor! :D If you're willing to pay extra, of course....

Poor little Magi is becoming a well trained Kitty. Now when he sees me walking towards him with a syringe filled with a pink fluid he flees. He tries to hide but when he is finally caught he now sits patiently while I give him his medication. Then he waits for me to lower my gaurd and I find myself with twenty plus claws stuck in me.

Oh I should say that he is doing quite well and is even more loving. Not to mention his leaky plumbing has been fixed, he has not marked a sinle spot since his surgery.
