One tiny, almost insignificant island...

Also could not connect with either link, Diego Garcia is a depository of US arms...you are making a point?

The first link took me to the google search results page, which was easy to then open many of them.

I found this one most helpful and interesting:

Diego Garcia Island

The second link was a zipped file, which took ages to open, so as I'm on dial up, I gave up.

I almost got stationed at Diego Garcia when I was in the Navy.

Thanks, Mat, that was an interesting link.

It seems that Diego Garcia was not affected by the tsunami, most likely because of the underwater topography between it and the epicentre of the earthquake. Diego Garcia lies West of a very deep underwater ridge, rendering it impossible for a wave to build in the approach to Diego Garcia. The worst effects reported by anyone was a swell in the ocean, of about six feet.

Given the recent history of the island, nature can seem very unfair at times. And, yes, that was a rather controversial statement, I know.

Personally, my own favorite insignificant island is Fernando Poo. It's off the coast of West Africa and had nothing to do with the tsunami, but I think now they've gone and changed the name. Pity.

Greater Fernando Poo and Lesser Fernando Poo are now The Democratic Republic of Poo. Who's entering the flag design competition?

Whatever it is you're on, how about cutting the dosage.

Glad to see you're still happy with the AV you filched from me.

You may or may not agree with the American military pesence on Diego Garcia. That is your perogative.

I know people who are/were stationed on Diego Garcia. They are not there by choice and they do have families who are concerned about them.

I am not sure of the point of your postings.
