.....posters (often Newbie's) who can't fill out their profile.

I mean, seriously, if you want to seriously be part of these boards, why can't you just write two or three sentences so everybody can have a first look into who you are.

Jeeze, Snoop....if there's something you want to know just ask ;).

Actually, I think not knowing how to fill out a profile is part of what makes newbies newbies. Maybe you should tell 'em how it's done?

It isn't necessarily a newbie thing, Snoop. IIRC, I left most of my profile blank. I can't tell someone who I am in a few superficial lines so I just didn't bother.

That's not to say I haven't checked someone else's profile to get an idea of who they are. I've done so often, but I've never come away from it feeling as though I know them any better so really what's the point?

I don't feel I have to defend myself here. I'm just saying it's something I don't like.
Some people don't like dogs for no reason.

Maybe it's due to my usual snooping around that I like to find out about people easily by viewing their profile.

I can't remember what I even wrote for this ID's profile, but it wasn't true.

That being the case, what's your point?

Almost everyone here knows it's me.

Even my main nick, my profile is that I'm a slut... Sounds fun on here, but not me.

It's only those who know me in real that matter. They know the real me. Who really puts their genuine profile?

I like curious pups.:rose:

Plus I wanted to add to Perdita's statement that I post useless threads very often.

You will see what you choose to either way.

I'm with you snoop.

Even if its a lie, or a joke, it gives you some idea of there online personality.

Mine is an excerpt from one of my stories. If you're fairly clever you can figure out a few things about me simply from my choice of what to post.

Lazy newbies, and oldies alike- post something damnit!

I don't have info in my profile, because I wa trying to hide my identity, lol.
Course, that flew out the window when my AV was a picture of my face, lol.
But now it's not, and I still dont want the info in there. I figure it's better to omit details then to lie about them. :)

We all play a roll- in r/l as well, but especially online.

I think it's ok to post a few things about your *character* rather than your r/l self.

For example, under fetishes, rather than actually posting what I like as though I were placing a personals ad, I posted the types of things that I figured I would be writing about. (which by and large are things I like, naturally, but the point is, it's 'who is snp', not 'who is A.')

You can also put things about your views as a writer. Rathr than saying, I'm from Maine and I'm a famous well known writer;) you might say, I like to write erotic horror and scare others as much as I scare myself. I like to hear from readers about the effects my stories have and while I try not to make spelling errors and such I tend to ignore feedback of a technical nature. All I really want to know is "Did I scare the pants off you?"

See, no real details revieled.

I think it's nice for location if people put their country, but I just put whatever I think looks cute underneith my av! Other details it's generally pretty easy to be coy, cute or clever rather than too revealing.

But I don't think it matters to much even if you do pretty much 'lie' as long as you aren't 'abusing' the net or anyone on it, and as long as you stick to that lie. (such as 'I'm not really a total slut, but I play one online) I don't think anyone expects total honesty from an online profile, it just gives us an idea of what your online personality might be like.

Mine says 'attached' because I am, and because I don't want 'come on' PMs, but every now and then I get them anyway. If I were single, I'd probably post the same thing for the same reasons and I wouldn't feel guilty about it.

Hey, that makes a lot of sense! LOL.
I guess I never looked at it that way. Plus, I never planned on posting. Actually, I never looked over the sight well enough to know there was even a place for a message board. :p
I just figured most people were sex starved, and that they didn't give a shit where you were from, lol.
When I used to just read, I don't recall ever really looking at someones profile. I rarely voted either, and never gave feedback. Now that I've been posting, I see what an important part that plays in an author's desire to write. It all makes sense now! lol. :)

I suppose I can go back through and update my profile, making it say something other than 'None'. :p
Come to think of it~ on AIM it always pisses me off when people don't have profiles, and if I talk to them enough, I badger them until they give in and put something in there, hehee.

Good observation Snoop, and thanks for the insight Sweet. :)

I don't much care for profiles. If you look at mine you see a lot of blank space. Chances are if you've been talking to me a lot on this forum you know quite a bit of the shit i'm willing to share and a little of the shit I share under duress (my psychosis for instance). I figure people form an instant judgement on you by your profile instead of bothering to find out who you are. They read and say "I know them" and then find out their preconceptions were bullshit. I like to start on ground zero and form my off-base preconceptions from there.

I find that to be an ironic statement (coming from Satan.):D
