JMohegan said:Hey, Shy - how have you been? I have an update to last year's whip discussion. Something that made me smile.
As you may or may not recall, the neighborhood boys built scarecrows on poles in my backyard - to be used as "bad guy" targets when I'm in the mood to swing. The kids have been sitting on my fence, watching me practice, for about a year now. Sometimes small groups, sometimes large - but they're always eager to watch, and they always cheer me on. Mostly boys, but one little girl too (though she keeps her fists jammed in her ears, and if she's actually watching it's through an adorably scrunched-up face.)
So last night (Halloween), as usual, dozens of children came trick-or-treating to my door. And among them were......
11 boys dressed to resemble Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark (each with hat and "whip")...
5 kids dressed as cowboys (again - hat and "whip")...
and one little girl in a standard pink-ballgown-and-tiara-for-kids outfit, who whispered shyly, "I'm the princess for Indiana Jones."

I haven't been touched like this since my nephew asked to borrow my old football jersey for trick-or-treating, roughly a decade ago.
That is so sweet. 'Imitiation is the sincerest form of flattery' and all that.
