Here is the scoop:

I just finished setting up our new computer. Everytime I try and open a new window in IE, I get that small window that pops open and have to resize it to the bigger one. Sometimes the status bar appears as well at the bottom.

This is not a problem I had with our other computer. It seemed to remember the previous settings even after we shut it down.

Is there a default setting that I am just missing here? I am sick of this.

Another problem.

I bought this computer from my little brother for $100. (not a bad deal for a HP that is less than a year old) He does not remember the password he set the content advisor on.

I had already reformatted the computer last spring for him. After I bought it, we had some files that I transferred over without worrying about any previous settings.

He set the content advisor password to keep his girlfriend off the web and now doesn't remember the password.

Any way to fix this without a full reformatting and having to reinstall everything we have on here now?

Waiting patiently for the brilliant ones to answer these.

Thanks for all who are willing to jump in here and help.

Bumpity Bump Bump

'cause I can't answer the question here at work, but I'm sure someone can.

Kymberley...
Try higlighting the IE icon on your desktop (or whereever it is located)then right click...go to properties...make sure click on apply when you are finished with all the changes.

Thanks all

But none of these has helped with the window resizing.

I have even done the one about deleting the window sizing in the registry keys.

As for the password, no help there either.

But thanks all anyway.

Kymberly, as far as the window size... mine does that sometimes. Sometimes it opens minimized, sometimes full screen and other times at "1/2" size. I've learned to ignore it, because I can't find where the problem is.

Now on the content advisor password. I had that problem (kind of). I had set it to keep the kids out, but then decided it was annoying so I got rid of it. It wouldn't go away. I searched for the answer, never did find it (not even redownloading a newer version helped). I finally took care of the problem by reformatting my computer. lol. I know pretty extreme, but dammit I was mad!

Sorry I had no answers for you.

Good Luck:)

Try manually dragging the windows to the size you are after, then hit the maximise button. It worked for me a couple of weeks ago when I had windows 98 re-installed, so it might work for you.
Good luck...:)

I think I just fixed the window size thing.

Went into safe mode then did

regedit > HK_current_user > software > microsoft > IE > main then scrolled to the bottom and deleted Window_placement scrolled back up and found Full_screen and modified that to "yes"

Then rebooted.

When it restarted, it went to full screen then I resized it with a double click to normal screen size and it has worked on all windows I have opened since.

I refuse to reformat again.

LOL

I had already tried that repeatedly. It always reset to the fucked up sizes each time I opened a new window.

This last post of mine seems to have fixed it.
