Once again, my tech-head son is away and I'm stumped by a computer problem.

I have a nice, shiny new pc, running windows 7.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Sll phone.
I would really like to transfer music files from my pc to my phone, but every way I have tried has failed.
I tried using KiesAir - failed.
I tried using a direct USB link - failed.
I tried using wifi file transfer - failed.
It's not supposed to be this fucking hard!

if you are using iTunes you can sync up with http://doubletwist.com/ ...though it costs a few dollars

ISyncr (also $) seems to get a good thumbs up ...read reports that is was better than doubletwist
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.iSyncr&hl=en

and used with iSyncr WiFi

or if you are not using iTunes

This one is free... but I always wonder where the true cost of free software comes from.
also from here

I have not tried them myself.

Get Amazon Cloud Player, you can upload your music from the computer to Amazon and then onto the phone. Google has a similar Cloud service as does Apple.

Disable the Bluetooth on the phone before using Kies or the USB cord, dummy.

People still fuck with music files?

I just get any music I want off youtube these days.

I even buy them.

I was reading a book named "Free" that says that business models are work where you market to where the people who have more money than time. Youtube and pirating take up too much time for too low quality guarantee.

If it's $10 a soundtrack, movie or book, I'm buying the thing, and yeah, I have to transfer it, but I use Itunes on my phone and Amazon to my Kindle.

I got bored with my large but still limited personal musical file collection and set sail for the infinite seas of the Youtube "Recommended" bar. I just drift from recommend to recommend. The old "what do I want to listen to now" mindset no longer suits me.

Well, I gotta have my show tunes.

I did.
Turns out that there's a convoluted way to achieve this. My son came home from work and showed me.
I can't just sync the phone - I have to connect the phone as a mass storage, go to the source file where the music is, and then I can copy and paste it to the phone.

Like I said, it should be simpler!

I'm not stealing music, btw.... I am copying a friends tunes that she laid down privately and without restrictions.

Strictly speaking you are...
Music: Copying CDs, MP3s, Cassettes &
Records (for Australia)

I suppose there is nothing stopping anyone for saying I bought my friend's CD collection for $1, copied them under fair use then sold the CD collection back for $1.

Laws just way behind technology and common practice.

The dying gasps of the dinosaur music publishing companies. They hate becoming the unnecessary money grabbing middle people.

Cassettes were going to kill the music industry, burning CDs was going to kill the music industry, Napster and mp3s was going to kill the music industry. On and on. Even storing your own music on cloud, Amazon, Google, Apple is still being battled out so lawyers can make money. Funny how the above cloud services are considered cleaner than Megaupload.

Meanwhile, my current favourite source of online music http://pokingsmot.net/ and hunting around on http://soundcloud.com

Strictly speaking, I didn't.
My friend wrote the music, recorded the music herself, and gave me the cd she made with instructions to spread it far and wide.
How is that theft?

You guys should check out bt.etree.org.

Totally free, totally legal.

How is that theft?

My mistake, I misunderstood your first description. I thought you were sharing the copied tracks of her own CD collection. My point was more how bizarre the current laws are in relation to this. Barely enforcible and totally out of sync with current technology. I was not making moral judgements.

Most importantly the technology has enhanced creativity and placed control back into the hands of the musicians. The only doomsday scenario is what is happening to the bloated publishing giants.
