On the bumping of threads that are older than dirt....

This thread has been helpful. I'm not brand new but am still finding my way around.

At first, I didn't notice dates but was just focused on browsing and sampling the wide range of topics. Mostly quiet, because I lurk more than mix. Used those boring/silly game threads to boost my post numbers (but still no avatar yet. Decisions, decisions) and to get glimpses of others' sense of humor and general personality.

When I started seeing complaints about posts to old threads, I was confused. I'm still hoping someone might explain the unwritten rules. What makes a thread "too" old? Or what makes it one that "should stay buried" and start fresh if people want to entertain the topic 'now'? (Glad to see this thread addressing those Qs.)

New to it all, the notion of 'current' has no meaning. I wasn't necessarily finding things of highest interest at the top of the heap. Why would anyone, any day, unless it just so happens to be your lucky day?

Feels like I might also be missing something about ownership and caretaking of threads. I originally thought most threads, unless designated as Somebody's Playhouse or pix or personal ads, were simply cast out into the web for whatever currents take them. They might drift a while, then catch again. Is that a problem in some way I'm not seeing?

Thanks for info and insights. Laughs are an extra bonus.

Denny------ We still get in trouble for posting and especially adding photos to some personal threads.
I'm like that driftwood in the river, I just float randomly and sometimes the current leads me up a dead end or a private thread. I say I'm sorry then back paddle looking for the main stream again.

For a long time we had no idea members start personal threads just for their own photos and comments, expecting only replies to their comment. I try to respect that but as I've written before, sometimes my fingers get in gear before my brain knows what route I'm about to take.
Maybe it's because I'm older than dirt and an old dog can't get off the porch and do my own tricks.
Yet these bumped threads and reminders on the rules of Lit can help old and new members. Some members still don't understand the underage rules, political and other areas, so bumping old dirt has to be better than some of the new dirt being posted.

Don't laugh at this comment. Porn is a serious business. ;)

I'm curious as to why if you have to go back thirty pages to find a particular "topic" you bump the dreaded thing instead of just creating a newer version?

I'm thinking there might be reasons behind the OP not keeping the thread alive, so to speak?

Just an observation.
I get to chuckle when I see it. So carry on...

There are always new people who may not have seen the thread. Some of my favorite threads from the past are buried there and one day I may bump them up.
