Hoping I don't get in trouble with those on this forum, but I trust the ones I know and they are all here so here it goes! ( I also posted in the how to forum before anyone suggests it)

Help! I was just wondering if anyone who happens to run online business would like to help me with questions I have.

1. How do you set up payment plans? ie credit cards, paypal etc.

2. How do you find a domain to host your website?

3. Does anyone have recommendations as to what domain they would suggest I go with?

4. How do you get your website hit on for when people do searches etc?

Hope someone can help solve some of these issues.

Paypal is a good way to start your online sales business. The fees are per payment, and not per month plus per payment.

Domains and hosts are two different things. The domain is the internet address, like "literotica.com". Your host is the guy who has the computer sitting somewhere that actuallly stores your website on it, and sends it to people when their browser asks for it.
Your hosting choices depends on what you plan to sell, to a certain extent. Some hosts refuse to allow adult materal, so if you want to sell sexyness, you need to check each host's TOS carefully. Otherwise, look for at least 500 MB of disk space, make sure you can have a database or two ,and as much bandwidth as you can find. A databased ecommerce site uses much less disk space but a bit more bandwidth. You wil need to have someone who can tke care of some technical things for you, if you can't do them yourself... The internet is pretty much a 'do it yourself' place.

As for getting your site out there, that is an enormous quasi-science, and a big business with its share of scammers. It's called SEO, or Searh Engine Optimisation.

The very very best way to get your site hit on is to include lots of content-- words. That's what all those chiinese sites are doing when they rip off the front pages of lit stories. :mad:
 
Well I know I want to have my email address to be ....@my business name.ca

so that is my domain, so I need to know how to do that as well as find the 'host' I guess.

1 - So fare, I think paypal is the safer. And people tend to trust it. But you can offer both option of paiment

2&3 - You have to do some shopping but last time I check, GoDaddy.com was the cheapest. With them you can buy a domain name and an hosting services.

Some domain name can't be sale by companies outside of the country. For exemple if I want a domain called xxxxx.qc.ca (quebec - canada) I have to buy it with a Quebec domain provider.

Another thing. If you think your idea is a good one (and I suppose it is :) ) and you think that your domain name will become famous, I recommend you buy also the same name with others extensions. ie literotica.com could buy literotica.net and literotica.biz and literotica.us etc
This is what we are doing now with a friend (we have a few websites) because he started one as a .net, it works pretty well now and the guy who own the .com want to sell the name to him 10 000 CAD$ :eek:

4 - That's the mystery part :) and it's a full time job :( (but not mine :nana:).

The way google works : to be taken seriously by google (and you don't want to paie :) ) you need an index page that change regularly and "consistency " on each page. By consistency I mean that you need a title, name on the photos, text etc referring to the same thinks (ex : on MontrealCafe.com on a page for a place, the name of the place appears in the tittle, pictures, all the little yellow text when you go over a button, on different link etc ). Google scan all of those.

Have a look at what google offers with Ad-Sense, you can buy adds on other sites.

Explore the web around the topic you want to sell. See if there are other related website, offer an exchange off link. See if there are forum or blog on that topic and inform people of your new web site, they'll visit and if they like it they'll talk about it. It's the electronic version off "by word of mouth"

They are companies that sell a kind off newsletter service. They have people that register with them saying they want to received news in this or that topic. (For those who frown this is not spam people agreed to received some adds and there is always a link at the end to unsubscribe). You right your letter and send it trough them.

A friend's soon to be son-in-law has offered to put something together for me as an example, the woman I am hoping to go into business with has a daughter who is a graphic designer/ website designer who has offered to design what he has to put in it- does that make sense?

M's s-i-l likely knows a million times more than me, he just graduated from university! I should just leave it up to him I guess but I still want to look smart when I talk to him so any info I know a head of time will be greatly appreciated! lol
