On Being Atheist...

What do your characters do upon hearing someone actually utter the term "Hippies"?[/QUOTE]

~~~
Ahhhh...Sweets....I understand female bones lose density with age... what is the product Sally Field advertises? Boniva? A monthly dose, you got enough? Welll...take your chances then, as I get on my kness, lift your ass off the mattress and throw your legs over my shoulders...hang on to your backbone as I bang you 'til the cows come home and the bruises on your pelvic bones will fade in a week or so.
Younger ones are so much more nubile than the old harridans of Lit.
This is when my characters tiptoe out of the room, clap each other on the shoulders and fall against the wall in a fit of laughter that is scarcely heard above the rantings of the old man-- and the eructations of his senile digestive system.
There one was a cowboy who married his sweetheart and said he'd love her 'til the cows came home.
Then the cows did come home.
That's when his bride found out what they mean when they say 'cowpoke'....
Shhhh!
nobody moo...
He does seem to be decomposing here tonight. Just tried to explain on another thread why it's fine that he makes statements of "fact" that aren't. He says it's an element of his brilliant writing and "on air" style. I understand that Rush Limbaugh uses this technique too.
I do tend to approach this forum in an extemporaneous manner; I find it more challenging and I have had enough of carefully scripted and researched papers on various subjects. Even editing my fiction is somewhat of a chore, as someone pointed out, my use of 'possessive's ('), I sometimes rush on through just to get a thought typed out before the spark of an idea vanishes.
I would hope to invite new readers to offer comments on the subject of being an Atheist and where one looks, outside religion, for moral guidance.
I offered a link to the Humanist Manifesto as a reference of how one group seeks answers, there are no doubt others, but for everyday people who don't have or take the time to research a formal outline of ethical pursuits, I would like to hear from you.
Thank you...
Well, you've convinced me, Ami. Sure, you get a pass on being either factual or coherent in your forum postings. :D
Since 2003, I have only put one person on ignore and they are long gone from the forum. I read every Post offered on Threads I start and every Post on other Threads that interest me; I usually try to have something substantial to offer other than the drivel by the above Poster and its cohort companions who do nothing but gossip.
On the other hand...let me say I do appreciate you keeping my Threads on the first page, without you few malignant and crude readers, I would have to manufacture 'bumps' now and then to cultivate interest.
Glad to help. There always should be something to amuse folks on the first page. :)
I guess substantial doesn't have to be accurate or coherent, so you're good to go.
Once I the research opportunity was unparalelled, I started responding. I'm sorry folks, it's probably a bit selfish of me.
"On Being Atheist" and the associated moral and ethical questions sans a religious formula; I offer a question on the morality of 'chastity' and/or abstinence:
http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Chastity
Chastity - Definition
Sexual abstinence or chastity is the practice of voluntarily refraining from sexual intercourse and (usually) other sexual activity. Sexual abstinence is typically considered a subset of behavior in the context of chastity as the latter refers also to attitude and intent and not mere mechanics. Sexual abstinence is typically advocated in the categories of religious/moral concerns and health/social concerns, with a significant overlap between the two.
Abstinence in history and society
In many past and some present cultures, minors (particularly females) are expected to abstain from sexual intercourse until marriage and to remain faithful to their spouse thereafter. Thus, being "chaste" in these cultures means sexual abstinence for unmarried persons or those separated from their spouses. In western societies, abstinence in relationships has been idealized more consistently for women than for men. Some theorize this derives from the risk of pregnancy, which poses a threat to patrilineal inheritance. In some cultures, proof of virginity, often in the form of a bloodied sheet from the conjugal bed, is demanded as part of the marriage contract.
There is another more subtle, more nuanced psychological discussion that is not addressed to my satisfaction in the linked article, of which I quoted only a few excerpts.
I limit my thoughts to heterosexual relationships and further exclude that 25 percent of young women who have been sexually assaulted or molested as children.
I hold, that sexual intercourse is the most intimate and personal experience that a human being can experience and thus becomes one of the greater 'values' in the human experience and should be treasured as such.
The great, 'Classic' love stories and love poems of all times, confirm and support my suppositions, but of course, they are, for the most part, fiction, and may or may not reflect reality or if so, to various degrees.
What are the moral planks or premises by which you address chastity and abstinence?
I would even invite those who accept religious tenets as a guide and welcome your commentary.
Excuse me, I missed this last night.
And I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Off to gargle and find something to bleach my brain.
(Harridan???)
Harridan:
•a scolding (even vicious) old woman
•A virago, shrew or a vicious and scolding woman, especially an older one
Remind you of anyone?
