We have called the police on our neighbors before - definate sound of someone being hit during a fight, not at all something that is BDSM (it was most definately in the realms of domestic violence). I wouldn't say that I'm that loud, but I have never been exactly quiet. I used to try to be ... and then we moved into this apartment. The soundproofing on some walls is pretty good (the walls that 2 apartments touch) but the walls between the apartment & the hallway have almost none, and the ceiling has almost none.
