And therein lies the problem. Far too much of this has been politically driven. Certain politicians, medicos, along with most of the MSM have been playing up the worst case scenarios. The reality is no where near as dire. Anyone that has taken the moderate approach has been punished, in some cases severely. It's not as if we don't know now who's at risk of having really bad outcomes yet there is a group of folks out there hell bent for leather to stampede the entire herd.

From what I've been able to glean from the facts is that this variant of the Wuhan Flu has an even higher proportion of asymptomatic individuals that are infected. And those folks are unlikely to get tested, why should they? I would surmise that this is the primary reason that this variant is spreading so quickly. There is some good news in that though. The rapidity with which it raced through the South African population would tend to indicate that it's going to be gone damn near as quickly as it arrived. Now we'll be able to sit around and wait for Pi. Can I have some ice cream with that?

I have people here, reasonable, smart people
constantly assuring me, that deaths are a lagging indicator
and we'll see the spike within just a few weeks, and the infuriating
aspect of their position, is that the start date of this countdown period keeps moving...

The lack of serious death/hospitalization is no proof, no matter how much time elapses.
Everyone they know knows that it is true and everyone else is out to kill them,
so they think, react and post, driven by irrational fear.

The UK government has decided not to introduce any further restrictions at least until the New Year for England. But Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have imposed stricter controls since Christmas.

the UK government's position is that we do not know yet what effect Omicron will have on hospitalizations and deaths. So far, increased hospitalizations have been mainly caused by the unvaccinated so the government's response is to ask more people to get a booster, The rollout is going well and more than half the UK's population over 12 years old has had a booster with anything between half and one million a day being boosted.

Omicron infections continue to rise fast but the number of people needing hospital treatment is still fairly flat (except in London).

Pediatric hospitalizations are up 395% in New York City since the week ending December 11

The state's trend is having a particularly disturbing impact on unvaccinated children -- even as the state touts a high vaccination rate among adults. Of the 5- to 11-year-old children admitted to New York City hospitals with COVID from the week of December 5 until the current week, none were fully vaccinated.

From December 9 to December 16, nearly 170,000 children in the U.S. tested positive for COVID-19, up about 28% in the last two weeks, according to a report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association released last Monday.

Children continue to account for about a quarter (23.7%) of reported weekly coronavirus cases in the U.S., according to the report. On average, nearly 200 children in the U.S. are being admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 each day, according to federal data.

New York alone has seen 1000 deaths of children. Mush of who were perfectly healthy prior to contracting Covid.
