I am exstatic! It has taken me years to find him, and now that I have I just want to cry.
Finally, a stylist that understands my super-soft, ultra-fine, smooth yet kinked hair!
He took the time to explain exactly WHY my hair won't hold certain styles and cuts, and then gave me a cut that works with my face-shape (strong and square), my glasses, my odd Shirly Temple ringlets, and my lifestyle (I'm a scrunch'n'go kinda gal).
I am sitting here with the first haircut I am trully happy with in the last 10 years.

Ladies, I know a lot of you can relate!

I do understand. The lady I had gotten my hair cut for years moved away and it has been a bad hair day ever since.:(

glad to hear that the crewcut and swastika carved into the forehead works for you:D

Hahaha!
Back in my youth, when I was indestructable, I carried a fire-engine red number 2 buzz cut with the words 'stitch this' shaved into the sides of my head for a while!
:D

My stylist talks about moving to Florida. I told her it wasn't allowed.

If you have advance warning, can you get your stylist to train someone else for your hair?
Sadly though, most of us don't get any notice when our fave hairdresser leaves.

I don't know that I would trust her coworkers. They're kind of really crazy.

Eta: we also used to work together so she gives me huge discounts.

So maybe find out who she goes to for her hair! Even stylists need a stylist they trust.

I had the best hairdresser ever, unfortunately he lives at the other end of the country.

The one I have now is okay but she wants to straighten my hair and have me looking all tidy and sleek. I like my hair to look messy and dragged through a hedge backwards style, he was good at that.

Yeah - every hairdresser till now wants to straighten my hair. Problem is, even with lashings of product, my hair kinks back up within the hour.
And when I've insisted they don't straighten, they get all offended! What is with that? It's MY hair and my money, ffs!

I like what she does to mine, but not to hers. She's just not allowed to move. Lol

Mine is all one length so I just get it trimmed, and I stick with the Supercuts type places. Every time I've gone to a real salon they've get all lusty with wanting to chop it...no thank you. Not to mention paying 15 versus 50 just makes more sense to me...

God, I wish I had easy hair!
Unfortunately mine is probably the worst kind, and if I go to a discount hairdresser.I end up frizzed and miserable.
I have no choice but to spend the $ and the time.... this last cut took an hour and a half to get right!

We guys can have problems like this too. It took me 4 years to find someone to cut my hair correctly. It doesn't work with a regular mens cut and most "stylists" tried to give me a womens cut. I finally found a girl who cut my hair correctly for it's texture and my face. Been with her for 24 years.

All the men in this house got together and bought a set of professional clippers, and do their own hair.

Please post pics, so I have something to take to MY stylist. Mine isn't really kinky (probably the only part of me that isn't ;) ), but fine, thin, and silky, and I have weird cowlicks at the hairline just above both temples that always want to curl. Every time I find a great stylist/style, she ends up leaving.

I don't post face pics, but I can try and describe the cut.
It's a high concave bob that tapers longer to my chin at the front. Because I have a low hairline at the back, instead of shaving in the concave like most hairdressers would do he graduated the cut ip the back. I also have a wierd cowlick off-centre at the front so he left a bit of length at the fringe and we have moved my natural part right over to the side, and I scrunch-dry the fringe to the side over the cowlick. I have choppy layers so I can scrunch up my natural curl and it holds.
Any length at all in my hair pills out the curl. Straightening only holds for an hour or two. I am stuck with curls, no matter what I do.
But now when I scrunch my hair up, I actually look like I have major body instead of just fine strands with half a curl.

My daughter has that same cowlick thing you describe. She's been wearing bangs because she can blend it off to the side. Sounds similar to what you've done.

My hair is thick, fine textured and straight and it pretty well stays that way no matter what. So I just keep it long and clean and leave it alone.

If I try and grow some length, my hair pulls out straight except for the bottom third, which curls.
Makes me look like I have a triangle - flat and limp to my chin, ending in ringlets that spread out at the bottom

My stylist showed me how to use my cowlick to create body in the fringy bit at the front. No more flat hair!

Yes. The triangle is not a good hair look.

I allowed myself to be talked into perming my hair once, long ago. I looked like a Jewish Little Orphan Annie...well, with pupils. It was not a happy time for me waiting for that perm to grow out.
