I'm addicted to it. I watched it all afternoon yesterday and now it's on again :cattail:

I don't understand the rules, though. Why do they sweep the ice?

Remove the bread crumbs???

(No clue, carson, honestly. We used to drink to it in college, though.)

The sweeping warms the ice which reduces the friction. This makes the rock go straighter and further.

Makes sense.

They sure move those brooms fast.

The Swiss women's team beat the Americans 9-8, but there's lots more curling to go!

.........but the men beat the Brits.....gosling and I were sitting here watching the final end in disbelief as the brits put up one after another guard stones, and the americans just kept knocking them out. But in the end they placed the second winning stone, and it was all over.

I love curling, always have.

As for the sweeping, it increases the distance the stone moves, and it will automatically follow the line of the sweeping (line of least resistance). Its a very precise technique, and can make or break a shot.

If curling fails, I might try that.
Noooooooo! Who would I bow to then? Hmmmmm?

(but if you do, see if you can get someone to throw one of those stones at you. I bet that'd do the trick. :D)

I watched a bit of it, and am left clueless...

I dont understand the scoring at all...

You have probably heard people say "Close only counts in Horseshoes". BUT - IT ALSO COUNTS IN cURLING.

ROFL!
Nice observation, Boxlicker!

some other things that count in curling:

Quality of the brandy.
Ability to sweep a floor.
Being able to stand on ice, although you get a broom to help prop you up.
Festive sweaters!

So is a lobotomy.
You speak from experience?

I like curling. Did a project on surface tension when I was in grade school. Interesting stuff, though sometimes the strategy seems elementary to me. Perhaps I should learn more about the scoring and rules.
