Maybe it's my age. Nah - I'm a kid at heart. Besides it's not kids "living/playing" Dungeons and Dragons that interests me - it's the young adults out there.

Fact is - other than erotica - I don't get adult, fantasy behavior of any kind.

Renaissance festivals, Williamsburg Virginia, Civil War reenactments - whatever........

Now don't get me wrong - going and attending, "visiting," is one thing - it can be fun to watch Tartan's through boulders and drink some fine brew while browsing for long swords. It's not that.....

It's the folks that live it, drink it, eat it and most importantly - nearly every weekend - dress up in it. I read where these Civil War guys can spend close to $200K on a working field piece and all the gear that goes with cannoning. Damn!!!!

That's some pretty serious fantasy shit!!

Please explain the rational behind all this. Aren't movies like Braveheart and Glory good enough? Well......

Those kinds of movies are good enough for me and........

Much less expensive too.

And the most important question might be: Is this type of adult, fantasy behavior any weirder than me being here on this board and posing to you this question?

PS - and sure this is a limited observation - but the young, mostly male adult'ish boys I have known to be interested in D&D have gone on to less than stellar achievements - thus far. Yes, they are still relatively young and have time to change but now in their mid-twenties, working as waiters, blowing off any further education and smokin' dope and popping Extacy - this tends to diminish my hope for them bettering themselves. And it certainly doesn't bode well for participating in D&D. I mean why? Luckily my sons have not yet found any interest in any activities like this - for them it's all music (they both play guitar) sports and paint-ball. Yes, one could say that those are fantasies too. But, but, but……. I mean, please compare.

Playing in a band going nowhere and D&D with dope and nothing else going for it but grins - well like I said - please explain. I certainly don't get it.

Uuuhhhhh...I played D&D quite heavily as a kid, didn't hurt me none. (Did you see that? What? Over there? Nothing's there!)

Of course now that I am writing a novel that has been well recieved by a couple of publishers and one agent, I can not comment on the "need" for fantasy in adult life. I think it is a lack of gallant young men and damsels in distress in today's time. Yeah, that sounds good. Right now my "need" is purely financial.
