Okay....let's talk about big ass jumping spiders!

i HATE bugs in general but i have big issues with spiders. one bit the ex once and almost killed him...he swelled up and couldnt breath and was covered in hive type things as big as golf balls. recently my son was playing with one he found in his playroom that was hairy and the size of my hand...no joke. so i really dont want the things in my house...i live in the woods, im sure they can find a nicer place to live then inside, and i dont bother them outside, but if one decides to lower itself down from my light fixture right in front of my face while im on the computer...you can be sure it will be killed three times lol

KC they crunch and they STINK like a MF'er afterwards. They also BITE.

Palmetto's that is.

*shudders*

oh if the sky is clear...sunscreen is a must....all year long. July 4th w/e i did a number on myself...out from 9 am til 11 pm ...in the sun  . My mother had to come and put chamomile tea compresses all over me, the whole time telling me "i told you you had to apply the sunscreen more then once"

Don't

flush them down the bath unless you are positive they are dea.

Had one crawl out of the over flow bit of the bath after flushing him away:eek: Haven't moved that quick for years to get out the bath, down the stairs making sure I was as far away from it as possible.

If there is no-one to rescue me and they are in the bath, I will shower in the rain outside instead.

Anywhere else I look away from them (keeping eyes open just in case), count to ten and if they are still there send them to Jesus :)

I prefer someone to putthem outside, I always worry their friends and family will come to the funeral.

PS Bound I used to like you, but that pic of the bug UGGG!!!

Seriously, they're nothing that a low-yield nuclear device won't cure.

I wasn't going to warn anyone off flushing them down the toilet or bath -- I didn't want to spoil the thrill of having them climb back out again at the worst possible moment.

He found it....in between my boxspring and mattress  i scrubbed for weeks before i would sleep in there again.

Confession Time

Anyone seen the movie "Arachnophobia"? Kind of a comedy-horror. Well, I live in the home of the spider they featured in that movie: the Avondale spider. Yep, I live in Avondale.

Sadly, the Avondale spider (a cool spidey, as spiders go, if rather large and hairy) is almost extinct in the wild, largely because there's a bunch of people living in what used to be its habitat. They do have an impressive collection of them in zoos and the like, so I don't think they are in any particular threat of dying out as a species. But certainly catching sight of one is rather rare.

Anyway, they are rather friendly as spiders go, and like to snuggle up at night. In fact, that's the only time I've met one - nearly scared the willies out of me!

Not poisonous, they live off moths and other nocturnal insects. They're hunters, not web layers.

A little guff about the Avondale Spider

Spiders that like snuggle with you? There are just no words for that one.

Must tell Tatelou in the AH though.

How cold is it there in October? That's when we're getting married.

Long ass drive though, must ponder. We live in FL, trying to find something that isn't in Ft. Lauderdale (lovely but flaming, dahling) is just ludicrous. LOL

Spiders. Ick.

My hubby has been bitten TWICE this summer which resulted in large rashes and a course of antibiotics each time (the doctor said they looked like bites from a brown recluse).

*shudder*
