OK, all you movie buffs, what is your favorite movie about space aliens?

Funniest AND cheesiest have to be the Ed Wood movies, like Plan 9 from Outer Space. Bela Lugosi wrestling a rubber octopus and drowning in 6 inches of water?

Too obvious a choice?

Ok, then, how about Sigouney Weaver in blonde wig as a TV sex symbol? Now THAT'S funny!

All right, ummm...

Funniest- I know that the whole movie doesn't qualify, but at the end of They Live where the aliens are revealed and the woman riding the guy stops and sees his alien face and he asks, "Hey baby, what's the matter?" That busts me up every time.

Scariest- I have to agree with you on this one, Siren, the Alien movies are the best! They set the standard. Movies don't usually make me jump, but seeing those the first times, I nearly pissed myself!

Cheesiest- Ever see Killer Clowns from Outer Space? 'Nuff Said!

Also good in the scary category is Event Horizon. It's not strictly about aliens (the ship basically fills that role), but it's a good blend of Aliens & Hellraiser.

I agree that the Aliens series is a contender for scariest.

Cheesiest: Purple People Eater

Funniest: Spaceballs has to be highly rated as featuring funny aliens.

4: Best Alien Movie: (a category you forgot)

Enemy Mine.

Of course, these are just the ones that come to mind immediately. There are so many other movies featuring aliens that it's hard to choose.

E.T. was a very good movie that just happened to be about an alien.

I do have one grumble to voice here. Why is it that all of the classic 1950's Science Fiction movies seem to be considered "cheesy?" Most of them were done on very low budgets because science fiction wasn't considered "serious" art. Given the technology available, and the budgets, they are still outstanding movies to even be remembered in this age of high-tech digital special effects.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Blob
The Creature From the Black Lagoon

... Are just three of the classics that made all of the Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, Independence Day, et al possible.

Ranged against their contemporaries, they stand out for the quality of special effects, drama, and fright factor, in the same way that big budget thrillers do today.

They were made in simpler times for less sophisticated viewers. Yet they still have the power to evoke nightmares even after forty years since I first saw them.

Ed Wood's movies are exempt from my diatribe about considering all fifties movies to be cheesy. <G> They were cheesy even in the fifties.

While most Science Fiction movies of that era are "B-Movies", Ed Woods made at least "D-Movies" if not "Z-movies"

Well lets see I've only ever seen Spaceballs and ET so if they count as anything then put me down.

This girl isn't into scary so if they even look the slightest bit scary there ain't a hope in hell that I'll be watching them.

I hate space movies so I can't be of much help here, but I will take the imformation given on board.

Cool thread Siren :)

1)Space balls especially the great Yoda bits.

2)Alien, the original with only glimpses of the alien.

3)Coneheads.

(agreeing with WH's ideas about greatest overall)

4)The Quatermas films from the 50's very low budget but working with the "atmosphere" to keep your spine tingling.

Okay, okay, I'll bite. This is not quite as good as the horror movie thread (hey, it's October, right?) but as usual, La Siren gets the juices flowing.

The scariest space alien movies are the Alien flicks, hands down. From the chest-bursting scene to Sigourney in her teeny-weeny undies, the first one was really a horror movie, pure and simple. And if it didn't have you on the edge of your seat, man, you needed to check your pulse for signs of life.

The cheesiest for me was a movie called "Lifeforce" with, of all people, Patrick Stewart in a small role. A space mission to investigate Halley's Comet brings back a creature with them that turns out to be a female vampire. For the rest of the movie, she runs around London totally naked sucking the life out of people. Mathilda May played the space girl (and I haven't seen her before or since) and she has a body on her that won't quit. Almost makes sucking the life out of you worth it...

The funniest for me (I'm sorry, Siren. I'm one of those who didn't get Mars Attacks. I wanted to and I usually like Tim Burton's stuff, but that movie didn't do it for me.) and I freely admit I'm somewhat prejudiced on this pick is a little cult film that most of you have probably never heard of called "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes". And one reason I like it is because I went to school with the guys that made it.

Gaucho Gaucho Gaucho......let me help you baby....

:p

Well, I'm not much of an ailen fan, but I think my fave movie with an ailen theme would have to be Independence Day. (But also, I have this thing for Jeff Goldbloom (sp?)!!) Cheesiest, etc., would have to be Spaced Invaders or Mission to Mars. I never thought any of them really were scarry.

There's an actress named Kira Reed who sometimes calls herself Kira Lee, who does late-night sex movies that don't show enough for an X rating but still sexy as hell. I think I like her because she's a short, busty brunette like, um, I dunno, ME? Her web site is http:/www.kiradance.com

Anyway, she did a take-off of alien movies called Alien Species that had astronauts bringing back a plant-like lifeform that took over human bodies and made them crave sex. Something about the astronauts having inadvertently split up the male and female alien plant, and now both plants were on earth seeking each other and using human bodies and lots of sex to find each other--I know, it didn't make much sense to me, either. Kira was some sort of government agent investigating this, and of course she got taken over by the female sex plant, which gave her a chance to do some great sexy scenes in the buff. It was funny and cheesy and sexy all rolled into one. Not scary, but fun to watch with husband as a "guilty pleasure".

Disagree about not wanting to be scared. OK for a Sunday matinee with hubby where his arms can comfort away my fear (Exorcist is great for that, not aliens but very scary). Scary is NOT ok for 10 o'clock on a weeknight when I get too scared to sleep and have to get up to go to work the next morning.

Star Trek IV, "The Voyage Home" had me gigglin' pretty good, Spock (alien), with half his marbles, trying to communicate with a whale in 20th Century San Francisco.

Scariest: "Aliens". (shudders)

Serious Cheese: "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"

I loved "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" with Donald Sutherland. (sticks out pointing arm, "AAAAAAHHHHHHH")

Hey, anyone remember the original Outer Limits on TV,
not a movie, I know, but still a killer show.

I LOVED that show! I was a kid when it was on originally and we watched it as a family. That show and the Twilight Zone are directly responsible for me loving horror books/films.

Funniest: Mars Attacks (Brought me a deeper appreciation for yodeling lol)
Scariest: All three Alien movies
Cheesiest: Plan 9 but it was supposed to be...
Best: Fire in the Sky

SIREN

Oh yes, Outer Limits had several of the best alien storylines. "Demon with a Glass Hand" and "Architects of Fear" are great television. "The Zanti Misfits" is pretty cool, also.

I know it is a bit maudlin at times, but I loved "Starman". Ed Wood is Director Emeritus of bad SciFi, but the cheesiest is "Invasion of The Bee Girls". Funniest is probably "Little Shop of Horrors".

We now return control...

..of your internet to Siren.

Loved Outer Limits!!!

Funniest....a tie....Spaced Invaders and Mars Attacks. The martian that wore the leather jacket and sounded like Jack Nicholson was a riot. Loved the scene where the martian was chasing a human in Mars Attacks saying stop we want to be your friend and then blasting him.

Scariest....I have found none of them really scary...Aliens if I gotta pick.

Cheesiest....anything from the 50's or 60's especially the Green Slime...

My two favorite serious ones..tie again...Enemy Mine and The Abyss with the added footage...

Oh my what a list I am complying.....

:p

TIGGS>>>>You go girl !!!!!

1. Mom and Dad save the Universe, or something like that. Had Terry Garr and that one whiny guy in it. I giggled alot.
2. Aliens. Oh my gawd, I have the BIGGEST crush on Michael Behien or however ya spell it. Its lasted for years. "Somebody wake up Hicks."
3. Earth Girls Are Easy. Ugh. Jeff Goldblum is NOT all that and a bag of chips. Sorry.
4. Coolest movie - Independence Day. SPEECH SPEECH!! Thank you Shyguy. :)
5. More cheese - I Come In Peace. Sure, I have NEVER known a mechanic who had to go through each wrench before finding the right one. Paaaahhhleeeeeeeeeze. Dolph has a nice ass though.

1. Funniest Space Alien movie tie between Mars attacks and What planet are you from
2. Scariest Space Alien movie I will go with the crowd and say Alien
3. Cheesist Space ALien movie hmmm...have to go with killer clowns

Scariest? I think the first Alien. With the subsequent Alien movies, you knew what to expect and could prepare. However, I liked the second one the best with the Army going in to take 'em out. Everyone was so superbly cast. Remember Burke? He was SO smarmy! And what's his name as the android? And the guy from Big Joe Young (can't remember his name either) was the whiny army guy. GREAT casting. (The prison planet one was lacking, and I heard such bad things about the one with Winona that I haven't even rented it.)

Funniest? Can't recall that many funny alien movies.

Did anyone remember E.T.? That was a great movie. That would have to tie with Enemy Mine for my favorite. That Starship Troopers movie was campy, but I did enjoy it.

Cheesiest...Can't think of one. I try to avoid cheesy movies. Especially when they cost eight stinkin' bucks.
