I just serviced my car.
Complete fluid change (except brake fluid) and rear disc brake pads.
I have oil and brake dust in my hair :(
But I feel like I've achieved something today, as this is the first time I have done my brakes completely solo (no mechanical type to call on if I got stuck!)

And I should add that my car is 34 years old, so i.don't have all the complicated sealed systems and electronics to worry about.

Do any other women here service their own car?

You could sell those jeans you were wearing for 300 bucks, yano. :) Send me a pic and I just may buy them.

No, I don't service my car....I don't drive. I just wanna look like I do.

I know how to change the oil, but I usually don't. It is a small 1990's car, so it's hard to get under unless you lay on the ground. I add oil usually. It has 210,000 miles.

It's great that you did yours. I don't think I'll ever do anything like brakes, but I might have to. My ex-boyfriend stole my Midas free brake pad warranty letter. It didn't have any identifying information, so anyone could use it.

Do you actually believe your own garbage?

Heh - I can't sell these ones. I borrowed them off my SIL and they are his absolute fave work-on-car jeans! (I had to pull them in with a belt and roll up the cuffs 4 times, lol)

My car was made in early 1981. It has had 3 owners, including me.
The guy I bought it off told me the odo stopped working in 2001, and at that point it had 335,000 on the clock. The entire car is original except for the usual - tyres, radiator, etc.
Since I've had it, I have driven across Australia twice (and back) and up to Qld and back twice, as well as it being my daily drive. God alone knows exactly how many km's this car has gone!
She's a beatiful thing.... never misses a beat :D

Hahah! Doll, you are right up there on the fashion! Would you believe that I found a pair of awesome pants on the Free People site described as "oil-washed". No kidding. I bought them.

Do you actually believe your own garbage?

Why would you doubt me?
I have said it on here before that I do the service myself.
And now that I finally found a manual for this car (second-hand bookshop: $3.00!) I will do a lot more.

I have ordered the new indicator switch assembly and will change the old one out when it gets here next week. Looks quite simple in the book!

What is the free people site?
If it looks like I might be doing more manual stuff, I will have to go op-shopping for a set of opd overalls or something.
My limited wardrobe doesn't have many disposable clothes!

I don't believe you because you never tell the truth.

You don't believe me because in your limited circle you have never met anyone who is almost completely self-sufficient and not afraid to get in and have a go at pretty much anything.

Here's another little gem you won't believe..... when I was growing up and my parents were building a 57 foot steel Bowden ketch in our backyard, my father thought it would be a good idea to teach myself and my brother to use the oxy-acetalene and to weld.
I learjed to arc weld before I learned basic algebra.
(If you dig hard enough, there's archived newspaper reports from 1978/9.that tell the story.)

Free People .com. Cool clothes! I hope I don't get booted for posting a site!

How did you manage to get brake dust in your hair?
But in any case, if you have it in your hair you were probably breathing it....not good.
Next time spay things down with something like Brake Clean to keep the dust manageable.

You grew up on a yacht and have a car with over a half million miles. Algebra isn't really math. Obviously.

Yes, I grew up on a yacht. Lived on board from 1979 to 1991. Sailed all the major oceans twice, and a couple 3 times.
I can navigate using a sextant and almanac, and I've been to a shitload of countries.

As.for my car.... bought for $900 and because of what it is, I have been offered considerably more to sell. :)

I got brake dust in my hair because when I took the wheel off I laid it down to put under the car (couldn't find the stands).
Then I moved it so I could have a look at my exhaust u-bolt hanger ... and to do that, I had to lay under the car.

It has taken me 2 washes to get the grit out of my hair!

I do! My Pops taught me before I left home.... I enjoy it... Hubs and I want to rebuild an old muscle car together... Either a Charger, Challenger or a Mustang. ;)
