Oil help...

Hi everyone... LONG time here at lit, but this is my first post on the forums

So... just a general question about oils to use during lovemaking...

I've heard rumors that go every way... some say that anything is fine, some say you want water based, some say you do NOT want water based lol

Johnson and johnson baby oil seems to be popular... and cheap... and easy to get a hold of:) but my question is sort of two fold;

Primarily, I am worried about safety... i.e. no napalm in my vagina:) I've used meager amounts of J&J baby oil before with no such burn, but I'm talking like several bottles and a plastic tarp... specifically what should I/we avoid? Any horror stories that have stemmed from genital contact? Again, I have in mind some very large quantities of oil, all over... so I'm looking for something we can be free of worry about getting all over and inside the vaginal flesh...

Also... I would love any feedback from couples who have used oils in the past... any tips? cleanliness? hygiene? Any really really hot ideas other than just saturating in it and rolling around? lol *though that sounds like a fine idea to me;)*

I'm really looking forward to this; gf and I are planning a weekend to ourselves and we share this little fetish... I guess you could call it... so again, ANY feedback/opinions/medically documented facts:) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I think you'd be a lot better off with a natural oil, such as olive, jojoba, coconut, almond, or even a vegetable oil in a pinch. My first choice would be silicone lube, but that's expensive for the kind of situation you're talking about. These products are much less likely to clog pores and cause other problems (there's a reason massage therapists use good oils). I wouldn't slather a refined petroleum product all over myself or my baby, unless it was going to be washed off immediately (e.g. using it to shave my legs in the shower).

Baby and other synthetic oils can disrupt the natural cleansing process and delicate balance of the vagina, causing irritation and infections. The ingredients in many water-based can also cause irritation and infection, which is why we stick to silicone lube. However, women have used natural oils like olive and coconut successfully for years; many docs recommend using olive oil for vaginal dryness and sex.

I'd err on the side of caution with this one if I were you. Your plan sounds like a blast, and it'd really suck for it to leave you with skin or pussy problems, instead of just really hot memories. :)

ETA: Hubby and I often go to an erotic massage night and slick each other up with copious amounts of oil. We tried it with the synthetic stuff they provided at first, but it had a funny smell, made us itch and break out, so we always bring our own oil and lube now. The instructor/facilitator of the night tells people NOT to use the oil as sexual lube since it can cause pussy problems. Even with just a moderate amount of oil and lube, we have a lot of fun slipping against each other and seeing how different body parts create various sensations.

Make sure you do this in an area where it's okay if oil gets on the floor and have old towels on hand so you can get to the shower afterward without wrecking your nice towels and floors. I'd think something like a baby/child's pool would be better than a tarp at containing that much oil, and they're usually on clearance right now. Also, think about cleanup beforehand, e.g., how will you dispose of excess oil, and clean the tarp/pool?

Wow... great info! Thanks so much Erika...

Interesting though what some other people suggest... so I'm VERY glad you have some experience:) and can thus warn against baby oil... glad I didn't find out the hard way!

So... olive/vegetable oil... like the cooking type?? lol Never crossed my mind... and doctor recommended too? I may have to give that a test run...

And... in case anyone has suggestions about the layout (and I AM keeping cleanup in mind... barely;)) I was thinking using the floor space in a larger hotel room *mind you, not the one with 2 feet between the bed and the wall* that I would estimate at around 8 x 6... roughly, and with some more space open... I have a VERY large plastic tarp that should provide ample coverage for the floor/walls/bed/anything that would get in the way... and yes leaving a trail of towels to the shower:)

So... I was planning on coating the tarp with a moderate amount of whatever oil I decide on, to get it all nice and slick, then applying the rest of the oil directly to our bodies... but this is just such a turn on I'm sure it will get wild enough that we will want to be sure its safe for whatever and wherever... I'll have to read up on natural oils... but other than the obvious rubbing/slipping and sliding around, any suggestions on some fun activities? I was thinking maybe bringing some sort of belts or sashes just to have something to grab hold of *using LOTS of oil* but does anyone have any other ideas/suggestiongs/experiences? I'm sure with almost 50 views SOMEONE must have something to share;)

Anyways, thanks for the input so far... REALLY looking forward to this...

Out of the cooking oils, I'd probably go for olive over vegetable because it's known to be good for the skin, BUT it does have a distinctive smell, and is more expensive, even in bulk. The extra light has less of a smell, and you can use the leftover oil for just about anything, including baking, so that might be a good option. I think it's under $20 for a large quantity of a good brand at Costco.

Many local healthfood stores and massage suppliers sell really good oils, like jojoba and almond, in bulk or large quantities for reasonable prices. Something that's used for massage would be my very first choice because I'd know it's very unlikely to cause skin problems and doesn't have a funky smell. Plus, leftovers can be used to make scented massage and bath oils, massage bars, exfoliating scrubs and other stuff for personal use and/or gifts (I made massage bars and scrubs for Christmas a couple of years ago, and they were a big hit).

So... I was planning on coating the tarp with a moderate amount of whatever oil I decide on, to get it all nice and slick, then applying the rest of the oil directly to our bodies... but this is just such a turn on I'm sure it will get wild enough that we will want to be sure its safe for whatever and wherever...
I'd start by slicking yourselves up really good, adding more oil to your bodies as necessary, instead of pouring it on the tarp. You can always add more, but you can't get rid of excess easily, and I'd guessing you'll find using copious amounts on your bodies will be plenty slick. Too much oil is likely to impede, rather than add to, the fun, and you don't want to slip and hurt yourselves when you're getting up or changing positions!

You may want to put a chair or something nearby and cover it with a plastic dropcloth just in case you need something to grab onto or a place to sit while you're wiping off the excess before heading to the shower.

Out of consideration for the hotel staff and my wallet, I'd bring my own towels, since oil can be impossible to get out of fabrics (and they may charge for ruining the towels). Extremely cheap towels can be had at Costco, large retailers and thrift stores if you don't have some old ones you don't mind throwing away if the oil doesn't come out. Even old t-shirts and the like would be fine to put down between the tarp and bathroom.

The thing about natural oils is they provide a medium for things to grow, which means if they pass the labia it poses some real issues.

Mineral oil, such as baby oil, is bio-inert, hence while it's not as nurturing to your skin, it's also not as likely to upset the biochemistry of the vagina.

Baby oil is basically mineral oil with scent. If that scent reminds you a lot of babies it might impact the mood (could go either way, mind you.) It IS safe enough for babies, which should tell you something. Nobody dips their infant in olive oil, even with extra vitamin E...

Plain mineral oil is nice and slippery, you can add scents or you can burn aroma therapy candles.

we've done the "oiled bodies on plastic tarp"

its all fun till someone gets too excited and the other one shoots off the bed and onto the floor......... :D

Yeah... was sort of concerned about the chemistry of all that...

I've used some baby oil *sparingly* but have heard HORROR stories about getting too much inside a vagina... or the head of a penis for that matter... and would really really like to avoid catching either of ours' on fire:) Anyone used a lot of either baby/mineral oil or natural oils with success? It just seems theres so much contrasting advice out there... not sure what to follow other than proven experiences...

Keep the ideas coming! I'm SO looking forward to this weekend:)

Hehe... ok... so I am mildly worried about that:) lol

But:) I was planning on having the whole session on the floor to avoid the potential gravity issues...

So... you've done this??? I would LOVE to know all about how it went:) What worked? what didnt... any advice/suggestions on what to do/bring/have around? I'm sure we will enjoy it on its own... but I'm at a loss for what to actually do other than roll around (which is just wonderful on its own:) ) But... any tangible suggestions?

And, if I may be nosey:) What oil did you use? Any problems? Anything you can recommend would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone for the really great help so far! Can't wait to put it all into action:)

honestly - it was more funny than sexual - you lose all grip - hands, knees, everything! as he's fucking me i'm sliding accross the bed like a seal on ice :D

we used good quality olive oil - didnt seem to cause any probs and a lot of got inside of me.

doing it on the floor might be a good idea, so would using something to keep the plastic flat (it tended to wrinkle up)

i saw a porn video where they used a small plastic wading pool - that might be a better idea - because its so slippery you really need something to brace yourself against

Really good to know... Thanks! Ugh... looks like im buying the expensive stuff after all:(

Looking forward to the "funny" aspect of it actually... the hopeless helplessness is so appealing:) lol In my case (two women) I guess its just going to be lots of sliding and slipping around

I had the idea of a wrestling match of sorts? which should be a BLAST since it must be impossible to keep someone pinned when they can just slide out:) Also, was thinking of using either towels or oven-mitt sorts of things to have SOME sort of friction or grabbing "rights" for either of us... was maybe thinking of some strapon fun later, but honestly it might just be hotter NOT to have anything solid to hold on to? Also (been thinking about this alot lol) I'm envisioning some sort of thing where we can rub up on? The image in my head is similar to a pommel horse... but with a smooth surface that could easily be slid on... except I'm not going out to buy a freaking pommel horse lol... any suggestions on that one? Just like a little mound we can put down on the tarp and slide around on...

Thanks again, and keep them coming! :)

actually the porn i watched was a whole pool full of women - they were all trying to be so serious but you caught them laughing a lot - there were at least 6 or 7 of them in a pool about 3mtrs square - then there was all these guys standing around sort of up high jerking off

It's odd that so many doctors, midwives and other professionals would recommend olive and other natural oils for vaginal dryness and sexual lubrication if they're as harmful as you suggest, Lukky.

Many natural oils are fantastic for the skin, and people do use them on babies. I'm using an olive oil lip balm right now, and wouldn't hesitate to use something like olive oil instead of mineral oil on my child's skin.

Melissa, is oil safe to use with the material of your strap-on (i.e. is it a pure silicone dildo)? If there's a chance it could contain rubber, you may want to keep the oil on the outside of your pussy, or at least be prepared with some polyurethane condoms.

As for things you could rub against, you can probably find something suitable in your local Home Depot or other large hardware store. If you use an inflatable child's pool with a tarp or plastic dropcloth underneath, it could be fun to rub yourselves against the sides.

Just a personal opinion. I would prefer coconut oil more than the others mentioned. I really like the smell but other folks may hate it for the same reason. We've not used it as a vaginal lubricant though although I'm sure some has ended up there over the years unnoticed. It is used a lot in the tropics as a tanning oil. I don't even know if you can get it in quantities at reasonable prices in the U.S.

Enjoy your weekend and let us know which oil you choose and how it went :)

Hotel Room

If you're going to spend the money on a hotel room, get one with a large whirlpool tub. Forget the tarps and use the tub. Works great!!!

To prepare. Line the exit side with towels. The floor too. Also have an extra towel to put down in the tub so you can stand up safely. By a bundle of cheap towels at your favorite discount store, don't use the hotel towels.

Bring a bottle of Dawn dish soap to clean up the tub with. You definitely don't want the cleaning bill.

You can get pure olive oil for less than twenty a gallon. I don't see that as expensive. Safe to use too.

VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Have fun!

Great help so far... Thanks!:)

Erika... good point... was just brainstorming about a strapon... but didn't really think of the chemical reactions/erosion etc... besides I think it may just be SO much hotter just to be lost in a sea of wet flesh with nothing really solid to help;)

And... great thinking... I think I will look for some sort of a pool toy or even a sort of mat like a yoga mat that would get nice and slick and use the rim of the tub... and well I've already booked the room, and it doesnt have one of those 6-seater jacuzzis... lol but we shall see how the tarp over the carpet works...

And, yes, I/we are planning on having quite a bit of fun:) Don't worry about that... I guess I'm just mostly worried about running out of actual things to do; sure, being a heaping, sloppy mess will be a ball, but not for THAT long a time... I had the one wrestling match idea, but any help in that direction? I just don't want us to have to wash off and clean up too soon after just having a short time of slippery fun... any ideas on games? Mild to moderate power/control shift would be just fine:)

This is going to turn out to be a blast... thanks everyone for all your ideas!

Actually I've had great success with olive oil on the skin......on my babies :) and for a massage oil. I know it is great for the skin. I mixed a little bit of lavender essential oil to make the smell better. Cocoanut oil also has antibacterial qualities in it. Sweet almond oil is really nice smelling also.

Not inherently harmful, yet they do provide a "growing medium" which a mineral based oil simply cannot. For those who are alert to and aware of the biology the risk is probably minimal... for somebody asking first time questions, the choice of mineral oil or baby oil limits certain of the avenues for problems.

Externally there is absolutely no question in my mind that olive or other "biologically active" oil is considerably better, really, if the goal is to nurture the skin. It's when you're possibly introducing bioactive or biosupportive fluids into relatively delicate chemical balances "internally" that one has to at least be aware.

so? how did it go?

Oh:) I thought the thread was dead... glad to know you're still interested:)

Well... all in all it was a success... I cheaped out and just got two things of local brand vegetable oil:) because im a frugal little bitch, and i did want a lot of it to spare...

Looking back... maybe I should have went with something else lol... I mean it was good and all... just sort of dried up a bit quick, so good thing we had a lot:) The biggest annoyance was the smell... we felt like we were in a barn or something lol. But all things considered, it was a blast. Also, the space in the hotel room was a LOT smaller than it said on the floorplan I got from the place grrrrrr but again, we made due... and it was sort of nice being in our little cubby.

So... basically we slopped around like a couple of pigs for a good hour lol. It was wonderful... just the sheer primality *is that a word?* of it all drove us both through the roof. I LOVED having no control, no friction, nothing solid to grasp to... I mean it was a HUGE tease for me; I just wanted to grab her and ram her:) so it was this huge buildup with seemingly no end... We were absolutely on FIRE; I mean just writhing and squirming like two... i dont know whats:) but it was amazing. The look of her flesh from the light... the reflection of the oil... the sheer carnal flesh battered in slippery goo... oh wow im getting hot again just talking about it...anyways... Definitely have a sequel in the works:)

Thanks everyone for their thoughts and suggestions... I should have listened more:) but it was a great day nonetheless.

Like someone else said, I hear jojoba is great but so far I've had no luck in finding any.

We are using lubes we've bought. I'm okay with just about anything.

My husband prefers a particular one when used on him. I can't remember what it is right now. I do know we are almost out.

Many of my massage therapists have used jojoba, so maybe you could find the local retailer of massage supplies?

You can also buy jojoba online, and I've seen some stores that offer free shipping on larger quanties of oil. :)

We've been using grapeseed oil for massage lately. It's not too expensive, and agrees with our skin just fine. The other day, I left it on for 24 hours, and it didn't feel greasy at all.
