Our poor local Polie are taking it on the chin in the past couple of days.

A couple of days ago one officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investifation into her actions. It seems she was driving her cruiser down a side street and sideswiped several cars. Instead of calling it in and reportin the accidents she just kept on going. A local resident called it in but without her car number. When she showed up at the garage at the end of her shift with the side of her car damaged and no good reason they caught her.

Two weeks ago another local officer was arrested by officers of his own department while he was on duty. His crime? Domestic Battery. (No coverup in that department. They pulled him over, in his cruiser, ordered him out and after disarming him arrested him.)

We now have two detectives being fired for making rascist remarks on a web site. (In the news tonight.)

Hey at least the local police are not just making noises like they are policing themselves, they are doing it in a public manner.

Now if they would just teach them how to drive,,,,,,,,,,

I suppose I should add for clarification. These are not all from the same department but from several of the local departments around me.

It's admirable that the thin blue line has not just covered things up for one of their own.

I know your admiration for the cops, Cat, but here? Not a damn thing would have been done about one of their own breaking the law they're sworn to uphold. My disgust for the police around here is more than warranted: this county has been featured in Time magazine as the most corrupt police/judicial system in the country.

Coudy,

I understand and respect your position on them. Remember I worked in Boston for quite a while and got to watch them in action. (There was a reason my rig had Ram Bumpers.) I can even, to some extent understand Richards position on them.

I have dealt with big city cops who thought they were owed just as I have dealt with small town cops who thought they were gods. I have also dealt with cops who would make you cry if you knew the things they did for their communities. Cops are like us, human. They have their frailties.

The problems I keep seeing should be layed at the feet not of the individual cops but their departments and ultimatly their chiefs.

One of our local departments was so cliche ridden as to make you think they had been watching old movies about southern cops. If you were a member of the department you were a tin plated god. One of the cops, a rookie was so disgusted he turned to the state. He worked undercover for the state for several years, at the risk of his life. That department was dismantled by the state, it no longer exists and half of that department are serving time.

The young cop who stood his ground now works for the local Sherrifs Department, patrolling that same area. The crime rate there has dropped like you wouldn't believe. (Oh and that young cop married a woman from that town, much to the disgust of many. You see, he happens to be white and she's black.)

I've known some cops that were good guys, just not here. This area is run according to the good ol' boy network, and most of the cops (not all) are men who feel "small" for some reason in their lives, and like to feel "big" by carrying a gun and a badge.

They lie under oath as easily as breathing. All in the name of the almighty conviction, regardless if the person is innocent or not. According to them, I'm a cop-beating, hardened felon....all 130 lbs of me.

In that case dear Lady, they certainly would love me. Picture a Midget Buford Pusser with an even worse attitude, a nastier sense of humor and better training. If I wasn't married I would move there just for the amusement.
