Oh Que!

ahh now I can imagine Elle with an English accent. mmmm:rose:

Trust you're coming along well now Jezz. Watch out for the dog. Don't let him (?) trip you up on the stairs.

I seem to be healing up rather nicely. I think. I cannot see the incision or anything. I am going to grab a shower in a bit but a nap sounds rather divine right now. My dog is laying on my good foot. He is such a wonderful guard dog.

I'm in england, i did not say i WAS english.

I speak english with an english accent, but at other times in my life have spoken it with different accents, depending where i was living. I speak other languages with other accents ;)

haha ok..If I had a dollar for ever time someone asked me if I am Chinese I'd be rich.

I was teaching greeting today and had my class practicing "G'day mate, owyagoin?'. I swear I could close my eyes and hear a bunch of Aussies talking.

road trip

Traveling to Milwaukee, then Chicago. A small group of us are visiting a friend recently diagnosed with a rare cancer-- and to make things worse, his partner is in the later stages of cancer himself. There are four of us-- we've been friends since college.
Tonight, in Milwaukee, I have to remember how I used to run wild before I was married. Not that I actually will….. ?

You just get more and more interesting all the time Elle!

I never assumed you were Chinese. Do you teach dialects?

I am sorry to read about your friend and their partner. Cancer is such a vile thing and it seems to touch everyone's lives these days.

I hope you at least get to enjoy your free time tonight! Have a shot for me!

Excellent question! also, Why?

Hi Magic! Yes on the opioids, every four hours, which since the nerve block wore off does not seem often enough, but I am blaming them for the lack of sleep. I am keeping it elevated and iced and am looking forward to the two week marker when they will change this soft cast into a hard cast. I am going to use my markers to decorate it....good thing I have them huh?

That sounds great. Giving yourself time to heal is the challenge now -- especially for an active sort like you sound to be. If you are breaking through your pain medication, make sure you let your care team know. While discomfort obviously isn't to be completely avoided, getting enough sleep is really important.

It's a good thing you have a couple of markers, for sure. The hundreds of color-coded options at your disposal? Well.... :)

Take good care and make sure you give yourself the opportunity to heal it up right this time.

I'm so sorry to hear that there's such a sad reason for your road trip, but I hope you make some cherished memories.

Heater/ AC out in the truck, decode to quit after 13 hpurs today. Probably 5 more hours to go.

I teach English darling. And occasional English dialects yes!

NZ - fush and chups (fish and chips)
US - "y'all" and Noo Orluns, Noo Yark

Northern England - coom oop moom to see my boom (come up mum to see my bum)

etc etc

I grinned when i read fush and chips, but the 'and' needs phoenetisising. ( i know someone who was taught another language i speak with a NZ accent and it is sometimes quite outrageously brilliant) Pen, pan, pin....are fun with NZ vowel sounds.

I don't think it matters which accent someone learns english with, so long as its clear.

Exactly, I find Americans are quick to say that their pronunciation is the correct way. Whereas I say that neither is 'wrong'. Both IMO are right.

I taught my class 'poll' the other day. US as well as UK/Australian.
And it's hard without a phonemic alphabet here.
poll to rhyme with doll for US
and poll to rhyme with pole for UK/Aus. Wonder what the Canadian is?

I then asked which way they preferred, which was easier for their untrained Chinese mouths and teeth and tongue to say. They chose the UK/Aus.

The NZ for 'and' might be 'und' ??

how about six (sux) and seven (siven):D

but poll and doll don't rhyme.

~Totally OFF Topic~

Okay so there really is no topic in this friendly little critter of a thread...I wanted to come in here and rant and rave about what I see happening in way too many threads on this board, but to do so would only be inviting it in and I am so very tired of the tediousness of it all...

I had several beers, a fish fry, and some sort of russian. Take your pick!

Wine. We need more wine. Wait! No alcohol with your pain meds.

Could get interesting with pain pills, but I am going to pass on the wine, seeing how I am allergic. I would love love love a nice tall, ice cold kinky...my favorite is the blue.

Since Elizabeth says no alcohol with the pain meds, I will listen... (big sigh)
