My VCR keeps eating tapes.

I ran a brand new head cleaner through it last night and it still ate a tape.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Between that and the brand new xmas video game that doesn't work, the kidlings are pretty disappointed today.

*sigh*

Possibly a broken drive belt -- A trip to the repair shop would sem to be indicated.

Of course with current prices, it will probably be cheaper to just buy a new one.

Ya, it is a year old and was a very inexpensive model.

Hmmm

I thought about taking the top off and swabbing it with rubbing alcohol.

Does that work?

Taking the top off always works.;)

I don't know, that sounds familiar, and should help. But...I don't think it will solve this problem. Try taking it off and see what you can see, it might be something simple.

Yep, rubbing alcohol or 1, 1, 1, Trichloroethane are what a repair shop commonly uses to clean a VCR.

Taking the top off will also let you see if it is something sticky on the mechanism or a broken belt. If you're very lucky, and reasonably "handy", you might have a rubber band around that will substitute for a broken belt.

You could always take the cover off and beat the insides with a hammer.

That probably won't fix it, but it'll make you feel better about it eating your tapes.
