This is a painful admission for a wordsmith, but no adjective in my vocabulary fits the reality. Got a word that falls midway between Rod Serling-style bizarre and kafkaesque surreal?

Damn! I was so happy to escape from purgatory ahead of schedule that I totally missed the boat.

Might be just as well, however, since my sunburned, bummed-out, and jetlagging self would probably have been poor company.
