A married South Carolina teacher was arrested on Friday, suspected of having a sexual affair with a 17-year-old student at her home....

I'll spare you the details, which are at the link. I'm not posting this because of the news item, I'm posting it because of the comment, C&P'd below. Doesn't this sound exactly like the beginning of a LIT story? (At least until you get to the "buster" line.)

The only "victim" here is the husband. The boys? Well, not so much except that they probably have developed a too cheery picture of how fantasies may come true.

I wasn't so lucky. When I was 18, practice teaching, my supervising teacher invited me to the Literay Guild after school on Friday. She drove me to the bar of the N**** Motel. I went for the drinks and came back to the table rather excited. She took one look at me and said, "Calm down, Buster, others are coming."

The Literary Guild turned out to be a group of teachers who unwound every Friday night starting off with drinks at the bar of the N***** Motel and then moved on to dinner and more drinking at either someone's home or restaurant. That was it.

But, for one, brief, shining moment, I thought I had hit the jackpot.

I must disagree with the quote. Anyone named Kinsley Wentzky has suffered a great deal already.

Yes, a great story. Flip it up to college professors and a literary roundtable "initiation" for new, invited members--college students--and it could float here, especially well in GM or as Cougar, I'd think.

In my state, any teacher or professor can be arrested for having sexual relations with a student. There is no age restriction written into the law either. Theoretically, a thirty year old professor can't have sex with a thirty year old student according to this law. Sometimes students will try to flirt with their teachers (back when I was a teacher, a student told me that my butt looked really great in the skirt that I was wearing. You can't let a remark like that slide or it undermines your classroom discipline. I had to explain calmly to him exactly why that was an inappropriate remark to make.) If a teacher is the least bit attractive, you have to ignore flirting and keep all student-teacher relations professional. Honestly, eighteen year old students are so young that anyone with a conscientious and ethics understands how easy it would be to take advantage of the situation. Students are not part of your potential dating pool EVER!!!!

I'm glad someone finally said this. Thank you, Neko.

But that goes for any supervisor/subordinate relationship, doesn't it? More a problem in the military than in the schools, I think. Not to mention the office environment.

Sounds like it's more of a legal problem where the subordinates are minors.

I was picking up on NekoParks' #5 posting, where age wasn't a factor. And then the following one that zeroed in on the application in schools. I was suggesting that the pressure of it applies in all sorts of relationships.

True, it's not just the military that has a huge problem with sexual harassment of both women and men. I have heard that the health care field is even worse than the military and education. You would be surprised at how many teachers have been sexually harassed by their principals. It's not covered much in the news, because most teachers just deal with it or transfer to another school or leave the profession. Most school administrators are a law unto themselves. It's unbelievable what they get away with in their positions. If you don't believe me, then you should read the book Breaking the Silence by Joseph Blase.

I'd slit my wrists before subjecting myself to a book like that, so I'll pledge that I believe you (also because, as I said, it's going on all over the place in other professions, so it's not something I have energy or interest in disbelieving).

But, really, I'd slit my wrists before I'd willingly read a "let's you and me get all hot and bothered about this and that and get them good" expose type book. (Although I've edited one or two of them.)

Sexual battery, my foot. The charge should have been 'Assault With A Friendly Weapon'. :D

I bet she had to drag that poor boy kicking and screaming into her web of vice to have her way with him. You just know he rode her like the last pony out of hell and thought he was in MILF heaven. ;)

You "know" that based on what evidence beside ignorant stereotypes?

If I had to vote on a stereotype that held true, I think the stereotype of the horny and thinking-only-with-his dick 17-year-old boy would be near the top of the "confirmed" list. :D

Are you really sure you're cut out for the atmosphere of an erotica discussion site, Electric1? (Because I'm afraid you're really coming across as militantly puritanical and anal retentive.) Just sayin'.

Although it's working on the urge to go see what erotica you write and post here. I'll laugh if what you write is Incest. :D

I heard a comedian talking about the real story a few years ago about a female teacher who'd slept with a 14 year old student. The press kept referring to the boy as "the victim". The comedian, of course, had a different take: he said it wasn't this 14 year old boy who was the victim, but instead it was the next 14 year old boy who got screwed out of the ultimate fantasy of every teenage boy ... fucking the sexy teacher. :)

Pilot, I can understand your attitude if you have never had your job jeopardized by someone putting pressure on you to comply with their sexual demands. However, books like Breaking the Silence can help someone going through a harassment situation feel less of a victim and less alone. The principal that was harassing me was also my evaluator. I knew that I was an effective teacher, so the only way I was able to protect my job and professional reputation was to request an outside evaluator. In the end I was able to protect myself, but I did eventually leave that school. Fortunately, I had a good reputation with other principals in the district and was able to transfer into a better situation. While it was an excruciating experience, I did emerge a stronger person. The next year this principal was fired for sending harassing emails to another teacher (a mistake that he never made with me). While this was over ten years ago, it did teach me that work place harassment is about power more than anything else.

(By the way, congratulations on your positive reviews on Good Reads. You deserve it. :D)

I think it was Bill Maher who said that or something like it on his HBO show.:D

Fair 'nuff.

Life is full of indignities and I've had my share (there's a Mr./Ms. Indignity or two harping away at me right here on this discussion board. :D), but life is short and I intend to enjoy the rest of it. First, this particular issue is yours, not mine. I don't air my past hurts and am even less inclined to take on those of others. And I try to put them in perspective within the greater scheme of things. I also don't dwell on issues that I can do little about and I don't obsess over past hurts.

This particular aspect of an issue that I tried to point out crosses a lot of organizations and professions is central to you in this one compartment because it has been central to your life. That, unfortunately, doesn't mean that is all-consuming in the greater realm of life--or in mine just because it's a big slice of yours. I can't put that much energy into any single issue or aspect of an issue; none of them take up that proportion of everyone's life indignities. I've found if I don't let the single issues overwhelm me I can form a better picture of how it all fits together and can protect myself from hyperventilating every time I turn around.

When I said I didn't want to read a book like that, that's exactly what I meant. I don't go looking for irritations and issues to be outraged about. Enough fall into my lap in everyday life. I don't put them on my reading list. My reading list is for relaxation and taking me away from such irritations.

Thanks on the Good Read reviews comments, although maybe I should go look. Maybe there are ones I'm missing. I've had a reviewer pick up on loving my Dirk Hessian books, but it's been a bear trying to get her to look at the habu books. I don't change styles in writing them; just the subject matter. Dirk strictly does historical pieces.

Healthy attitude and fair enough. :)

What you're saying is that you're too lazy to do even the least bit of research, so you make up a fantasy and figure it's as good as true. That was kind of my point to begin with: you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, you just operate on prejudice. Thanks for backing me up on that one.

Well, no, I'm not saying anything like any of that, whatever it means. And I've been off taking a look at your list (as I said I would). I think your How-to piece is pretty nifty. And that will probably mean that only one of us actually will have taken the effort to research the other.

You been taking hate pills today, sweetheart?

Other than that, your post is all over the board and doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Guess only one of us is going to go to bed mad.
