After reading about other people having their stories stolen I decided to have another go at googling my name. Searching for "TheEarl" usually gives you 17 Google pages about a hotel chain.

I just had the inspired idea of looking for "TheEarl sex" and by golly did I find some results. Wtf do I do now? Do I just hand every single url to Laurel? Will she deal with bulk complaints?

The overwhelmed Earl

I've seen Oggbashan and boxlicker saying they found such results. PM one of those fellows and see what they have to suggest.

I found my Fire Pole on a "mature" site. They lifted it whole.

They even lift some of my stories whole.

Must give the paying members eyestrain trying to find the sex.

I am a newbie. Just a question please. Are you all saying that someone is taking your stories/poems, and posting them on other sights? Might be a silly qusestion.. Just wanted a lil clarification..
If they do that.. What options do you have? Can they do that? I know this is a free speach sight and all but can they just take your work and you have no clue? Just wondering..

Thank You~

Yes, they steal our stories.

We can ask the Literotica Site owners to pursue them and they will as far as possible.

We only know if we have an unusual nom-de-plume or an unusual story title and search the net for it. The last time I did a full search for Oggbashan I had over 1000 hits beyond Literotica.

Most of the sites have explicit titles such as 'brutal rape', 'teenage incest' etc. The members of those paying sites will be disappointed if they expect those themes in my stories.

Og

I'm actually pretty proud of the two stories of mine that got lifted to pay sites. Both were stories that utterly slipped through the cracks here on Lit and it made me feel pretty special that at least someone thought them good enough to rob.

Plus I've used creative acquiration methods for too many things to complain about IP theft on the web.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but most of the time the sites that rip stories wholesale from Lit use bots to do it. No human eyes ever pass over them and read them for content. It's all about filling up their shitty sites with stories others have worked hard to produce.

They're gits like that.

Yes, porn sites with little or no credibility are leeching the net for erotic stories, and post them on their sites. Sometimes independent writers with just as little credibility does the same thing. Sometimes they even try to incorporate it into a pay site, to make money off your stuf.

And no, they can't do that. You own the right to your stories. By posting them here, you give Literotica the right to publish it on this site, but you own the story, and anyone who wants to publish it must have your consent to do so.

If you find your stories on another site, it is a copyright felony. Start with sending a note to Laurel about it. She is used to dealing with things like that, and can threat with legal actions if it is needed.

But be sure to look up what it is you find. It may be a review of your story, including a few quotres, and a link to your story on Lit. That is not illegal.

Just wanted to Thank You all for clearing that up. I thought they could not do that.. I also thought it might be possible that it would happen.. Just wanted to know if it did what to do about it.. I am not the best writer, but what I write is mine.. It takes a lotta work, time and love to write (for me anyway) and it just did not seem right that someone could take that without a word...
I really appreciate your time, and Thanks again for answering this for me. I had had another friend on the boards who is newer than me.. They would not post their story thinking that someone would take it like that..Thank You all again~;)

Let me have my false pride. Sigh, at the very least they are getting exposure on a crappy porn site. I'd probably care more if I a) thought I could sell my stories or b) used my real name.

Searching on "impressive sex" would get me ... well, I'm sure you can imagine. Same with "impressive erotica."

If I'm out there, anywhere other than Lit, I'll probably never know it.

well, vella_ms sex turns up about 50 hits and all of them seem to be linked somehow to lit...i think

...however, i find it disturbing that my nick is on some sites that advertise teen sex...
makes ya go hrm, dontit:confused:

If you google on "my story title" or "my impressive sentence" you may find your work out there.

I'll be buggered. (Hopefully). Mine are out there too. But how do I check them and make sure when they are a pay-per-view site? I can see my title in the Google search, but I would have to pay to see my own damned work to check. *grumble*

(And, amusingly, they did take my lowest-rated work. Moron bots.)

Awwww! Here's a *hug* instead. ;)

Indeed, you do have a point, but I wrote my stuff and if they don't, at the very least, ask my permission to use my stuff, well those moron bots can go insert their botty bot bots in the nearest circuit board.

The Joy of Morons Ripping Off Morons ...

At least I'm not the only one being ripped off.

http://www.assekuranza-vermittlungsgesellschaft.org/white-and-black-porn.htm

http://www.austintg.org/mature-sex-orgy.htm

http://www.cgga.org/free-lesbian-sex-movies.htm

They all have nearly identical sites, ripping off each other as well as me. I think someone somewhere took the whole Literotica letters section - at least, that's what I'm looking at when I search Google. It's all fee-based so I haven't gone in to find the story.

An explanation, perhaps?

Or maybe just bullshit.

Here's the email I sent to one of the sites that my google search found.

Remove all stories by "sweetsubsarahh" immediately.

Several of the stories you are displaying on your website have been stolen - they were written by ME. However, they have recently been sold and are now the property of a men's magazine. I've given them your URL address and explicit information and they will be contacting you shortly.

I've also contacted many of the authors of the Literotica website because it seems quite a few of the stories on your site were taken without permission.

And their reply?

Hi Sarah,

I'm really sorry about this.

But we bought a Search Engine script, and it autobuilt pages where it found text from different pages (searched online), this is just used as "filler" text to have on pages. These pages are only showed to the search engines, and not to regular visitors. As you enter the pages you will see that you can't find the story visible to anyone.

The author of this script didn't think about it taking things that belonged to others, but we have gotten him to change that now.

I'll get my partner to look into it and get it removed.

Marius

So - what do you think? Does this explain why our names and text keep coming up in searches?

Or should we destroy them all? :)

Exactly. That's what made me do a search. We all saw a sudden surge of "views." To Boxlicker, that meant bots, and I was moved to search.

It's alovely story, but nearly every time we talk to these guys they say they're stopping it right away.

If I can help with a 'search and destroy' mission, count me in. I've only published one - but that's been ripped (to bits!)
