A small community near here holds a similar event down on the Beaver River. It's a pile of fun and the proceeds are split 50/50 by the winning duck and their village school. When May comes, then come the Duck Races...
We buy a numbered Plastic Duck. The purchase price goes to the charity organising the Duck Race. The charity volunteers also have stalls selling secondhand books, bric-a-brac etc. The best charities also sell home made cakes.
All the ducks are corralled on a stream close to a public house. When enough Ducks (and beer) have been sold the Ducks are released to float downstream to the finishing line.
The person who bought the number on the winning Duck claims a nominal prize.
We all return to the public house for more beer while the charity counts their earnings.
A harmless pastime often spoilt by a demonstration of Morris Dancing. No matter how much beer is drunk I cannot find Morris Dancing to be an entertainment.

cheerful_deviant,
I was at Toy Fair in NYC... and I am sorry to say I thought of you.![]()
Yea! My own thread, and it's about ducks!
Hey, that looks like my collection at home. Well, ok, my collection isn't that big, but it's getting there.
So the question Throbb is: Did you buy a duckie and if you did, what kind?
Now I have to wonder why Starr was looking for this one![]()
