I found several editors through VE program. So I don't know. Granted, 90% of people there don't even answer when you contact them, but if you PM 5-6 editors a day, you will find yourself an editor in less than three days.
That was my experience. For a free offer, that's actually not bad, although I would appreciate some tweaks to the system.

Can't resist pointing out that you very likely didn't find anyone who was any more an editor than you are. It's not a vetted system. False advertising.

But to me the word "volunteer' should have people expecting 'get what you pay for' I never assumed I was getting a professional editor, just someone willing to put some extra eyes on a story and help improve it even in the realm of finding typos and doing so just to be helpful.

Maybe I'm in the minority there.

As much as I hound the site for certain things the VE is out of their control as far as is the person actually reliable or viable etc...so unless they killed it completely I can't see how they could put restrictions on it.
