Office X-mas Parties

Hate them. I get enough of those people when I have to be around them.

parties

Yeah I'm not too fussed by office parties etc.

That's prolly because I don't really like the people at work. Sounds awful, but I can cope with working with them, but they're a bunch of narrow minded idiots, so I'm not really that bothered.

I can never afford to go out much, so when I do, I go to my fave places where I can be myself :)

Up until this year I worked for a bank which had an Xmas party every year at the local university that approx 400 people attended. I HATED IT

This year we're having a somewhat informal party at the home of one of my coworkers (There are only 5 of us in our office). I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this year more.

However, every year those of us from my old department at the bank (most of us were fired when the bank was bought by a larger bank {officially it was a merger, like merging an ant with a whale!}) are getting together for a white elephant party. For those who don't know, you bring the tackiest, most hideous gift you can find. Everyone takes turns opening a gift, you can either take something from someone that picked before you (then they repick) or pick something new. Basically you want to be the last person to go so you can get something not so bad. There are occassionally good gifts going that everyone argues over. I like that kind of fun better.

We used to do this for Christmas at a company I worked for years ago. It was a $5 gift, and could be a good one, or a joke. Some of the joke gifts were actually the most popular and were stolen several times before the last person in line got their gift. It was always great fun, lots of laughter. :)

Now I go to a boring hotel hall for dinner- a lot like a wedding reception except better food. I can usually duck out early so it isn't so bad.

celebrate

enjoy

You could be asked to attend the annual office "clean out the hog pens" gathering instead.

Make the best of it. Then steal your boss's car.

Wife's office party

My wife works for a major internationl corporation. She is in middle management so she has to attend. I am expected to go as well.

They spend a hell of a lot of money on the thing.

But I feel so out of place, I don't know anyone. I get introduced to everyone. Lots of hand shaking and glad to meet you type crap. And what is it about men having to shake hands as a contest of strength? Got to give that big macho squeeze to prove what?

This year I am staying home, one good thing about having surgery, got an excuse.

Our xmas party is saturday night. in true redneck fashion, it's a keg party at the community center. :D should be fun.

the joyless fucks in my office aren't even offering a $5 bonus much less a party. can I come to yours?

Hubby's is not black tie, but just shy of it. They cater everything, and have the whole white linen, polished silver, real glass thing going on. We are low end in the business. We don't make the 70, 80, and 90k a year the rest of em do. We are barely more then students yet. The youngest. Thankfully, it's optional. It is stressed that you attend, but optional. For hubbys position, it wouldn't matter one way or another. So, we don't go. I wouldn't feel comfortable at all, and neither would he. At work, all the students and the other faculty workers (hubby works at a college), they get together and do a pot luck the last day of school before X-mas break, which is next week.
