Oddly specific request from my friends in the UK...

I am in need of a non-alcoholic beverage that might be popular among college age people specifically sold in a glass bottle. Weird, I know, but it is critical to a story point I'm working through.

Thanks in advance.

Can't wait to see how sideways this goes... šŸ˜›

Sold in the UK?
J2O is available in almost every pub. Appletise can come in smaller bottles.

If set in the last couple years, then a low/no alcohol beer - Peroni comes in glass bottles, for example.

Thanks. J2O will work.
Looking for something that can be bought in a market and might be enjoyed while driving through the countryside.
What I'm writing is a based on me getting pulled over drinking an IBC root beer, which conspicuously looks like a real beer. :) Of course, trouble ensues...

OK, I'll bite. Why a glass bottle? For insertion purposes or weaponry? That would affect the choice (a Kopparberg 0% cider would be best for making a Croydon knife).

(Sees update). It won't be root beer, for sure. But note, drinking while driving isn't actually illegal in the UK - if your blood alcohol level is still below the limit. You could of course be done for careless driving/failure to pay due care and attention, or whatever the Scottish equivalents are, but unlike the US where being pulled over by police seems a common occurrence, it just about never happens here - police in cars are generally going from A to B. Speeding fines, failure to give way, sin bin offences etc are almost all dealt with by cameras and the Registered Keeper of the car gets a fine in the post.

In a (farmers or other upmarket) market, it would likely be at least Fentimans (lemonade, ginger beer, an orange drink) or a local product (name a local area). But a cop isn't going to see a glass bottle and assume booze, unless you've been driving erratically. Either way, the attitude test will be crucial should they actually stop you.

If it's crucial they're college age (I assume you mean university age, 18-21, when they're old enough to drink anyway, rather than 16-18 when they're unlikely to be able to drive and certainly won't be able to get a hire car), I think a 0% beer or cider is most likely, rather than a small pretentious drink (a litre bottle of local ginger beer is also an option). That also makes it more plausible a plod might assume it's alcoholic.

You could always have a traffic plod manning some broken traffic lights or emergency roadworks, or, in a dodgy area of a city, setting up a roadblock to check all drivers for a licence and their car for insurance and MOT. They did it regularly near me for a few months, on the grounds that if a driver had no licence or insurance AND was too stupid to realise the same road was blocked weekly at the same time, they really really wanted them off the road!

Really just needed a slight distraction while driving, other than not being used to driving on the 'wrong' side of the road, that is. Wanted to add local flavor. Yes, the galss bottle is important.

Depending on why it's important, you might want to google the brand to make sure the shape of the bottle is appropriate to the story. A Bundy (Bundaberg) is shaped quite differently to a glass Coke bottle, for instance.

Thanks. That's kind of why I'm probably going with the Fentiman’s...

Nah, he's a blimy yank. Fish outa water, he is.

His author, though, well, her legacy hails from Carmarthen...
A what seppo now? Make sure he can cope with a manual car (or perhaps he's struggling with it and that's why the fuzz pull him over?)

I'm struggling to imagine a pair of students drinking little Fentimans bottles on a journey - perhaps the ginger beer - but supermarkets sell 750ml bottles too.

Carmarthen's nice.

If lashings and lashings of ginger beer was good enough for the famous 5 then it's good enough for students.
