I had a bonfire in the rain yesterday. I just started it with good dry stuff and fed it slowly with the wet stuff once it was established.

oh, i could burn it that way easily, and never need more than a match or two to light a fire (been doing them for more than 30 years), but since i live in such close proximity to neighbours then i have to think about the amount of smoke it creates. In milder weather a lot of people still have their windows opened and though i'll let a few neighbours either side know i'm lighting a fire i'm not about to trek right round the blockk. I start and feed a fire just as you describe, as the heat cuts back on the smoke of the damp stuff; it's as much a case of me not fancying standing out in the rain or thinking 'i'll wait for a spot of drier weather 'cos smoke' than anything else. I love to stand out there with it, a few times a year, making a night of it
