I haven't published anything new for more than a month. And still...

Over the past two weeks I've gained about 20 new followers. Not bots, either: accounts going back years and years. And it doesn't seem to be backlogged notifications of accounts that started following me during the Dark Days last month, because they weren't on my Followers list then. And even so, even if they all started following me during the past month, it's still an odd increase.

The works that these new followers have favourited have also been all over the place, so it's not like one of my stories was added to a recommended list or anything.

So has anyone been writing my name in public toilets: "For a good time, follow StillStunned" or something? Has my portfolio become large enough to generate gravity? Something else entirely that's slightly more plausible?

Serious answer: are they other authors? I've followed some people, just 'cuz. Over the weekend I got this email from Lit

Except that since it came anonymously, I have no idea who it even was that was thanking me.

eta: if whoever that person is sees this post, you're welcome also

Several people in the milestones thread have been bragging about hitting hundreds or even thousands of followers. Perhaps some of those followers, now suffering from cranial trauma, found your works. šŸ˜‡

Some are, some aren't. It just seems to be completely random.

(I'm not complaining, mind. Happy to be adored.)

Yeah, you don't have to be suffering from a head injury to follow me, but it helps...

People will follow you story side if they see you interacting on the forums and like what you say.

Otherwise, I have mentioned your stories and those of a few other authors over on Reddit on the r/Literotica when people ask for recommendations of stories that fit your style in the past few weeks. But I think that was about two or so weeks ago?

I'm confused - should I be following random people to make them feel good or to screw with their heads? Because I'm on board either way.

I mentioned it somewhere else but I've noticed that many of the people that either follow me or favorite something are usually the kind of people that, when I dig into their profile, I discovered like and/or follow every single story or person they've ever encountered. It knocks me down a couple pegs when I find my story was a favorite along with 12,822 others.

Well, it was probably around the time I got to 10,000 posts on the forums, so that could be it.

This seems more likely, though. In which case: thanks for the mentions!

I saw a few accounts that went back 20 years and followed 17 writers, things like that.

Probably. You've hit folks' quirk factors.

Be happy, don't question it. If it's a glitch, how will you ever know?

The alternative is what happened to me recently - got a notification of a new follower, but my total dropped by one. Go figure!

I've gained over 50 followers since February, which was time I last published something here. Go figure!

Getting a few comments and followers while my latest story is stuck in Pending Purgatory has been nice. It's not much most days, but I do tend to see more activity when the day's offering of new stories is lacking.
