If you've watched the Sci-Fi channels "The Lost Room" and loved it, your in the right place.

This thread will start AFTER the series when the key is just sitting there in the room as in the closing shot....

For those of you who HAVEN"T seen it, shame on you, it was run back to back just a few weeks ago. But in short a police officer gets drawn into a strange world he doesn't understand when he is given a motel room key. He discovers that this key, when used in any pin tumbler lock, will open up to a motel room. The room is the nonexistent* Room 10 at the abandoned Sunshine Motel outside of Gallup, New Mexico. In the room, which resets to exactly the way he found it, is:

Bed
Carpet
Ceiling lamp
Coat Hangers
Curtains
Dresser
Pillows with pillowcases
Sheets
Telephone (wall mounted rotary)
Television
Water (from the sink)

If he messes up the room, closes the door, and reopens it, the room is perfect again.

If he leaves something in the room, shuts the door, and reopens it, the item is gone and unrecoverable.

If he, with the key, stays in the room and closes the door. Nothing happens to him, and he can use the key to open ANY door he can think of that has a key-lock.

If someone is in the room without the key and the door is shut, the person is gone, and unrecoverable. Like the policeman's daughter....

He finds out that the key is just one of several objects associated with the room, and there are several groups looking for the items. The groups are:

The Collectors
The original group of Object-seekers formed some time after the Event. Led by Arlene Conroy, the manager of the Sunshine Motel, most of the Collectors were killed or driven insane after the disaster in Room 9 in 1966. The survivors hid their most important Objects in a home-made "vault".

The Legion
A cabal dedicated to collecting the Objects and stopping them from causing more harm. They claim to follow an established set of rules, including that they never kill in order to acquire the Objects, although this rule is sometimes put to the test.

The Order of the Reunification
Also referred to as "The Order" or "The New Religion." They believe that the Objects are pieces of God's corpse and must be reunited. Once so restored, members of the Order would be able to communicate with God for the first time in human history. More extreme views hold that restoring the Objects will allow one to become God, or else achieve God-like power. Unlike the Legion, The Order have no qualms about killing.

Freelancers: They are dedicated to helping themselves to the objects, they may team up with people from time to time. Or they may freelance with a permanent partner. Also there is a set of freelancers who only track the objects and sell the information, they do not want to see or touch an object themselves.

A list of known objects is below, however the series states that there was 122 objects, if I remember correctly. As we game, we will fill in the list. Some of them I already know what they do. However, you as the players will only be introduced as needed to the objects.

1) Key-Opens doorways between the center (the motel room) and point of designation and origin. For example...from your closet to the motel room, from the motel room to the bathroom in the Met.
2) Bus Ticket-When hit on the head by the bus ticket one is transported to Route 66 in front of a falling down house outside of Gallup, New Mexico.
3) Ballpoint Pen
4) Wristwatch
5) Umbrella
6) Bible
7) Toothbrush
8) cigarette package
9) radio
10) comb
11) shot glass
12) joker playing card
13) pocketknife
14) letter opener
15) matchbox
16) scissors
17) quarter
18) pencil
19) suitcase
20) razor blade
21) light bulb
22) soap dish
23) ashtray
24) Beer Bottle
25) Photograph
26) Record
27) 5 Dollar Bill
28) Movie Ticket
29) Wallet
30) Glasses

In our story we need to start with a new key-holder who gets caught up in events, so after posting your PC's I'll pick someone at random to discover the key. And then the fun begins!

*Meaning that once the key is claimed, you will no longer be able to get to the room via any means other than the key....the hotel numbers stop at room 9.

I'd heard about the show but never got a chance to see it! This sounds like a very interesting RP...I'd like to join in on it, gotta think up a chary however...

I never saw the show either but I'll play....sounds intresting. I'll post a character either when more people sign up or over the weekend. Which ever comes first.

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, if one of the other objects or it's posessor gets left in the room there's now one less object?

Sorry, two things to clear up (maybe I should of used caps! :D)

If an Object gets left in the room, and the door is closed and reopened, the Object will stay in the place it belongs in the room. For example, the Toothbrush is laid on the bed and door closed and reopened the Toothbrush will now be where it belongs in the bathroom. But if you leave an everyday toothbrush there, open and close the door, it won't be there.

If a person goes into the room with the Key, even if another person is holding it, both of them are fine even if the door is closed because the Key is in the room. But, if someone goes into the room and doesn't have the Key and the door is closed, they go to the other place.....and we don't know where that is.

And, I didn't mention it before because I wanted to role play, but what the heck....the only Object that works in the room...is the Key. So if you try to use, say the Buspass....nothing happens.

So if, say, I had the toothbrush and the key bearer shoved me into the room and closed the door, locking me in, then I would disappear and the toothbrush would revert to it's normal place in the bathroom?

Sorry, just trying to get a handle on this...Then again, maybe just be better to find out in there ;)

How's this?

Dave McKenna is a bit down on his luck. In fact he's pretty much hit rock bottom. An out of work locksmith, he refused to turn to a life of crime. He has a veritable gift for setting up, or bypassing security systems of all kinds. Unfortunately, he was accused of a rash of high tech espionage in his former life as security system specialist. Although cleared of the charges, the pal that shadowed his career forced the company to let him go and has prevented him from finding new employment. In fact, the police record has been a thorn in his side for a number of years.

After moving from city to city, in an attempt to escape his past, he finally settled down when a friendly social worker managed to get him a job bussing tables. After a month, the restaurant somehow discovered about his past, and once more he was destitute. Now he helps out at a shelter, where he lives.

The recent ‘misfortune' has begun to effect him. Were the false charges he was accused of merely an unfortunate coincidence, or was he the target of a conspiracy. How else could he explain the restaurant discovering his past after so long working for them? Susanna insists it's all in his mind and has suggested he not mention the theory to anyone else. Grateful for all she's done for him, he's agreed.

Age: 28
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 230 lbs
Hair: Brown, long with a rapidly receding hairline

Identifying Marks: Goatee, several tattoos and piercings
Notes: These days he wears whatever he can find, although he does keep himself clean and well groomed. His clothes are obviously second hand.

Name: Freddy (Mech) Thrillz
Age: 25
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 260lbs
Hair Color: Blonde
Eye Color: Blue
Backround: A mechanic for the past 7 years Mech is great at figureing out problems. His high intellengence makes mechanic work easy as does his love to work with his hands. His hobbies include building models, putting together puzzles, and anything else that requires building something. Having recently been workinng on 18 wheelers hes adapt at working on larger vehicles, but in his past hes worked on everything from military vehicles to passenger cars.

His mechanical ability is a great asset in everyday life. When ever he is confronted with a problem he releats it to that of a car and figures it out in minutes. Recently been bored with his job Mech seeks another in which it will challange his brain. Having no luck he goes out into the everyday world trying to find problems to solve. Doing research on unsolved cases he has recently come across some very bizare cases.

Description:
Fairly tall with blonde hair blue eyes Mech is a large man with a strong build. Looking at him you wouldent guess at his nearly genius IQ or the fact that he was a mechanic. Years of lifting heavy engine parts and machinary his arms are well built. Usually wearing loose fitting clothing he hides his well built body well.

LoL!!! Two Daves now on tap, one who specializes in locks and security systems, the other a mechanic? Seems we're on simmilar mental pages! :)

Wow...to tell you the truth I hadent read your post before hand and hadent noticed it till now. That is quite wierd.....i'll change my guys first name which is no problem. I guess we think alike :)

Not a problem...And yeah, a great possible team, or perhaps fitting adversaries...depending on how it all pans out :)

Great team perhaps, I can imagine that....that is if the game starts. :p I suggest we start it in a few days after the weekend even if we are the only two. Once others see the game in progress, how its going, and what its about more people will most likely join.

Exactly so, and your character would be...effectively...dead/missing and unplayable. We don't play in the room...Bahahahaha

Other than that both your peeps look great and I'll start the thread on Tuesday with just the two of you if that's the way it works out....so be it.

I've picked a number between 1 and 50, and the one of you who picks the number closest to it will be the key holder and I'll open the thread with that post.

PM me your number!

But of course, advertise as much as you want. I have some intresting things planned for you both..all..how many we get...

sorry I havent been on...i'm still intrested though. Its just my keyboard isent working right. Only certain keys work. I had to copy and paste most of this together. I should hopefully be getting a new one soon. But if you want please feel free to start I can still post it just takes forever. For the 1-50 number i'll just say it here...umm 15. Sorry about the delay guys.
