Obvious reason nobody seems to talk about re: Trump loss...

Very frustrated to hear all pundits gnashing teeth over the 2020 results when the explanation is so simple: republicans like myself who view the Party as bigger than any 1 person, voted GOP down-ballot but witheld votes for Trump.

Why, you ask, would thousands and thousands of republican voters do this??

This was mainly because with the last SCOTUS appointment, Trump has now placed all likely judicial openings to firmly establish conservative views on our highest court, and we are now done with him as a blunt instrument to make that happen. Anyone who manages others or runs their own business would never hire someone who conducts themselves like Trump, but he was an empty, manipulable vessel to achieve our SCOTUS ends. Now that is done, he has outlived his usefulness and justifiably failed to get the support we gave down-ballot to the GOP. His SCOTUS appointments (none of which I’m sure he even had his own thoughts about, but rather was fed names strategically, and then he just performed as needed by pushing nominations), will now live long past this current madness.

With the high court now stacked in favor of conservatism, I want my Republican Party to find a Reagan type now to restore credibility in the great party.

I know many, many other republicans who split the ballot for this reason, yet it’s never talked about.

Before you all ask, yes, I am a registered republican, pay all my taxes, am a law abiding citizen, and a law abiding gun owner....I don’t ally with far left thinking, but I do require a leader who can bring growth and pride for the country, versus continued disgrace and embarrassment.

GOP rebuild!

Only one problem...that isn't what the demographics are saying. Wanna try again?

The irony of Trump's whinefest, and of the Republican party elders who are backing his arguments, is that the GOP had a pretty good election night aside from the top of the ticket. Most of those who are running scared of Trump actually ran ahead of him.

I've seen people asking the likes of McConnell why, if the Democrats were capable of pulling off a multistate election fraud, they didn't similarly ensure better results for their downballot candidates along with Biden. They can't answer because there's an obvious response, and that would piss off the maniac in the Oval Office.

So, did you ever complain about democrats legislating from the bench?

How else, other than my explanation, do you explain GOP winning except for president...because he is a disgusting representation of any political party! We used him to achieve an end, and now he and his crooked family can go to jail...they served their purpose and we have our SCOTUS! Those appointments are for life...DT was a necessary 4 year hangover....

Shame on the GOP for putting us in this position...of course Biden wins AZ, because voters on both sides have had it with Donald Trump who is a buffoon! I’m a republican and it makes me sick to see our party whore ourselves to a low level of the Trump family.

Find a Reagan....someone who is powerful and commands respect by words and true presence, not by blatant mafioso bullying! Be the better party and drop losers like the Trump clan! We can do better!!!

You're acting like the GOP can take credit for Biden's win.

I don't see evidence of Republicans voting out Trump; he lost independents and Biden won back Trump-voting Democrats from 2016. Biden rebuilt the Blue Wall and drew defectors back into the party. Dems also increased turnout esp among young voters. That's what provided the margin for victory, not Republicans, who voted en masse for Trump again.

The GOP remains entirely the party of Trump. There may have been some Rs who dumped only him at the top of the ticket, but they were few and far between.

Is there anyone left who has some sense of dignity and integrity?

So you voted for him the first time, knowing he was going to lie, cheat and steal to get what you wanted, then booted him now that he got done what you wanted him to? So how does that make you any less of a disgusting representation of a political party, any less slimy then he is? It doesn't. The end does not justify the means. Only those who are bereft of moral character, who see others as only an object to use or overcome do it that way. Congratulations mein Herr.

Emotional reaction from Obama made Trump possible, when the latter had no business in government (remember, I’m a republican!). Just like emotional reaction from Bush made Obama possible.

We have to become a nation that is less motivated by base emotional knee-jerk responses (us v. them), and more focused on working together despite some core disagreements. Otherwise this just becomes a 4 year etch-a-sketch reset mode of operation, and unproductive...

Response nose to Comshaw: at least I’m being honest about how things work.

At the end of the day, I want a strong, respected, and well functioning USA just like you do.

Yes, you want it to function exactly how you want it to, do not mind trampling those who disagee but whine when the roles are reversed. You want the courts slanted hard right, and don't mind doing whatever is required to get it done. nothing will absolve you of the fact you used a slimy asshole to get what you wanted. It's analogous to the German people claiming they really weren't part of the nazi party and so weren't responsible for what was done, even though they supported the outcome.

Try to bullshit someone else. It don't work here.

Comshaw, I see your intonations and I’m sorry to say, but I have studied the Hitler era a lot and it is disgusting...not what I’m looking for at all.

I cannot abide the leftist lack of personal responsibility....the fact that my kids are required to be on my healthcare until 27, when I was already living independently in a different country with a wife at that age. What are we teaching our kids by coddling them with merit attendance badges so their feelings are not hurt?

Boo-hoo....dems want everyone to live in Who-Ville, but life is not like that. Meanwhile, the other countries end up treating our kids like pussies because that’s what we raised....

Let’s find a better way to take care of our country, regardless of race or sexual orientation, and be the best that we can!

.
I can't wait to read your next thread if the Democrats win the two run-off senate elections in Georgia.

That aside, you will forever carry the orange stain of having voted for Trump; a draft dodging, tax evading, admitted sexual predator and obvious racist.

The scarlet letters for republicans like you are the letter E for enabler. And C for complicit.

You're a fucking disgrace.

SAD!!!

That is the only way GOP wins strong down-ticket but not at the top.....and almost all republicans I know feel this way. That’s how a president loses when his senators and congress reps win win win .....

Lanzarán, this is the world we live in, and you should applaud me because it is republicans like me who helped make Trump lose......and justifiably so.

You all have 4 years to make things better, and I will support Biden in any way to help make that happen....

Except Reagan was a schmuck and sold arms to Iran and the lovely Khomeini. Couple that with his bullshit trickle down theory and the explosion in the national debt and boy he was awesome.

Not to mention the HUD scandal, defense contract scandal and the loosening of restrictions on credit which ballooned most Americans unsecured debt.

Oh and don’t forget the racism, xenophobia and hate for gay people.

I can go on for days.

Thats a bit harsh, RckyMtnMan.......I mean every candidate has flaws....I won’t mention Clinton getting his knob polished on the Oval Office rug...! :)

Let’s keep this in context..Reagan, despite his flaws, moved the world ahead in many key ways, sans blowjobs (Clinton) and sans buffoonery (Trump)....

Trump certainly has shown Republicans to be the party of moral degenerates. They had every reason to know what he was before the 2016 election.

I think that level of social conservatism at the federal level would only lead to further polarization and conflict. You wage a war on weed and blowjobs right now it's gonna get uuuuuuuuugly.

But I agree with the economic liberalism...(R)'s need to push that pro freedom for everyone to go make some money platform. Way more appealing than "progress" making everyone equally poor.

I also think the GOP has a golden opportunity to unify all but the fringe with a re-commitment to federalization for the sake of depolarization and de-escalation. What I mean by that is kick a lot of these polarizing social issues back to the states.

We can share military, currency etc. and go our different ways at the state level with all this controversial, totally no need to be federal issue, so that everyone wins.

I think if the GOP got on some sort of "live and let live, we have states for a reason let's use them." platform??? They would pull a LOT of votes from the more moderate folks who would like to take a shot at reducing polarization and preventing further civil unrest or it's escalation into a more serious civil conflict.

I understand what your points are, but you're still arguing what you want without addressing how you want to get it. You admit to voting for the donald even though you see him as a, how did you put it, "a disgusting representation of any political party". In other words you don't care how you get what you want as long as you get it and you don't see that as a moral failure, a perversion of your character.. That's the point i was making with the comparison to the German people under the Nazis. They didn't care how it was obtained either as long as they got what they wanted. And when they were faced with the reality of it, they used the "I didn't know" defense. It was still a putrid boil on their festering souls. You can't fling shit and stay smelling like a rose, just like you can't use someone like the donald and then claim the high ground. Using an asshole to get what you want makes you smell as bad.

I would not assume that Reagan didn’t get conjugal blowjobs in the Oval Office.

You want to take credit for Trump's loss because you think that erases the moral stink off your character for keeping him in office 4 years.

We'll see what happens when analyses of the election come out in more detail, but even if a very small part of the GOP voted to get Trump out, the vast majority nearly kept him in. In total he lost only by 100 or 150k votes spread across a few battleground states. He very nearly won. That HARDLY absolves the Republican Party.

You will be remembered for refusing to hold him accountable for anything, refusing to impeach him and remove him from office, continuing to support him throughout his coronavirus lies, his trashing of democracy, his kidnapping of children. I hope the SCOTUS was worth ripping infants away from their mothers. That's how you will go down in history. You will never get that stain off you.

Comshaw's totally right you people are the Hitler enablers of the 1930s. You're not going to get away with trying to steal the Democrats' victory from them. You sold your soul to the Devil and you can't get it back.
