Obscure Movie Recommendations

I don't know how obscure it is anymore, but Army of Darkness never fails to make me laugh.

that whole series is just pure genius.:)

Tampopo (japanese flick with subtitles)
Until the End of the World (great flick)
Jesus of Montreal (worth the money to rent it)
Bliss (weird but good)

oh and

Once were warriors (I think that's what it's called about New Zeland mauri ... very good film but violent)

Xiu Xiu the Sent Down Girl. (Chinese, depressing, good)
Jules and Jim (French, weird, good)

In early `80s George Hamilton did a Zorro spoof called "Zorro the Gay Blade." Hands down it's one of the funniest movies I ever saw. Again, might not too obscure.

I was quite fond of Me Without You
and I noticed that Bangkok Dangerous is playing on cable. It is quite good for the 'action' genre, though it loses something on the small screen (and is subtitled).

Also saw My Son the Fanatic recently. No one else seemed to like it but it gets a recommendation from me.

Thanks for some of these recommendations. I'll have to look into them sometime when I'm on a movie kick again. That will have to wait until Christmas break. I can't wait for December 13th!!!!!!!!

No prob! Anything to help beat a case of the dulls.

Memento???? Army of Darkness?

You people need to look up obscure in the dictionary.

I would reccomend a small Canadian comedy called My Dog Vincent.

A few films that I have really enjoyed from my film classes this year are:

The Conversation Directed by Francis Ford Copola 1974 I think.

Midnight Cowboy With John Voight and Dustin Hoffman, it was Hoffman's second film, 1969 for this one.

A couple of european films which I thought were pretty good.

The Grand Illusion A 1930's french film about WWI POW's.

Only thing I did not like about it was that some of the jokes are word plays and don't translate into English. If I spoke more then a few words of french I am sure they would be hillarious.

Open City A 1940s or so Italian film about Nazi Occupied Rome. A good film although it is not anything like a Hollywood film or most films made in main stream production studios. The film is even more impressive when you are told that much of it was shot when the Nazis were still occuping Rome.

I've heard about My Dog Vincent. I know I can get it at a video store down the street. Consider it added.

It's cute.

Also you could look into Elvis meets Nixon

Funny stuff.

Shadow of the Vampire is a good modern film that is about the original Nosforatu silent movie shot in the 1910's. The film assumes that the Actor who played the vampire, I can't remember his name although he is very famous for the life of me though something Shrek I think, in Nosforatu was actually a Vampire.

Azwed, you have a strange definition of "obscure".

And "Rome, Open City" may be a classic, but I wouldn't call it entertainment. :p

Azwed,

I hate to burst your bubble but The Conversation and Midnight Cowboy are FAR from obscure. ;)

Neither are Memento or Army of Darkness, but at least they haven't gone down in history as classics. :p

Perhaps in your world but no one I live with and most of the people I work with had never heard of either of them.
