US warns UAE and Egypt over air raids in Libya

The United States and four of its European allies have warned against outside interference in Libya’s affairs after reports that Egypt and the United Arab Emirates carried out bombing raids against Islamist-affiliated militias fighting to control Tripoli.

“We believe outside interference in Libya exacerbates current divisions and undermines Libya’s democratic transition,” said the US, France, Germany, Italy and the UK in a statement issued by the US State Department.

It’s an ironic twist, especially for donors in Kuwait (who, to be fair, back a wide variety of militias). ISIS has aligned itself with remnants of the Baathist regime once led by Saddam Hussein. Back in 1990, the U.S. attacked Iraq in order to liberate Kuwait from Hussein’s clutches. Now Kuwait is helping the rise of his successors.
