While Republicans plot new ways to sabotage the Affordable Care Act, it’s easy to forget that for years they’ve been arguing that any comprehensive health insurance system be designed exactly like the one that officially began October 1st, glitches and all.

For as many years Democrats tried to graft healthcare onto Social Security and Medicare, and pay for it through the payroll tax. But Republicans countered that any system must be based on private insurance and paid for with a combination of subsidies for low-income purchasers and a requirement that the younger and healthier sign up.

There’s a deep irony to all this. Had Democrats stuck to the original Democratic vision and built comprehensive health insurance on Social Security and Medicare, it would have been cheaper, simpler, and more widely accepted by the public. And Republicans would be hollering anyway.

I don't know much about the economics of it.
But I have close relatives and high school friends in the US, and they said that many people are dissatisfied with Obamacare.

Odd, because I remember the same people being very happy when the system was introduced, given it's promiss to provide cover for those who can't afford healthcare.
But now they keep saying that it takes money from the pocket of the middle class, while ensuring that the big insurance companies continue to make heaps of money.

Excuse me, but I believe the deeper "irony" would be that since the Affordable Care Act passed by a vote of 60 to 39 with not a single Republican voting for it, why did the Democrats not implement their original "vision" since they had such a commanding majority?

The bill originated in the House, then went to the Senate. The House passed the bill unanimously, and 173 Republicans voted in favor it. After it came back from the Senate, the fix was in and they all voted against it.

Besides, who can possibly explain the things that happen in Congress? They can work through the night choosing office decorations, then claim exhaustion when it comes to showing up for a key vote.

Common core and charter schools -from what I read- are a bit like that.

The scary thing is that they're going global now: certain groups are lobying for introducing the system
nationwide in Australia, too.

It's scary because they keep saying that charter schools and common core schools nowadays are almost exclussively
about providing a trained workforce for corporations, aka reproducing skills and memorizing ideas and doctrines without challenging them,
- and far less about encouraging intellectual curiosity and critical thinking.

I now pay for medical care, before I paid a nominal co-pay of $10 or $20. Now I get a bill and have to pay the whole thing until I reach $2500 in network or $4100 out of network. They give us $700 a year toward some dumb health account thing, big woop. I went from basically having medical care covered to paying for it thanks to that SOB in the White House. Which I'm sure makes him happy since he doesn't like people with my demographic characteristics.

They don't want us to make things great again by reviving anything from the past. They mock the slogan. Yet, I remember going to the doctor didn't used to feel like some assembly line like it does now with these HMOs or whatever they are. It wasn't dehumanizing and creepy as much as it is now. That's not just Obama's fault, its also mass population growth due to unlimited immigration overwhelming the system, but its not been helped by Obama's meddling in the system.
