my dad used to cook it with water and salt *yuk*I remember growing up that every school day my father would make my sister and I oatmeal for breakfast. Sometimes even putting chocolate syrup in it to make it "fun". I came to hate oatmeal. So I swore as a young adult I would never eat oatmeal again for breakfast. (I absolutely do have to give him credit for making it every school day. That was a very good thing in retrospect.)
Fast forward 30 years and how times have changed.
I have to admit though I am trying to figure out this oatmeal thing. Old fashioned, not the instant ones. No fancy brands just regular old fashioned oats. Cooked in water with the pinch of salt they say to add.
So far I've mixed in fruit, a bit of peanut butter, honey, lemon jelly. I don't want to add plain table sugar. I still need to figure out how to round it out - protein and fat specifically.
How do you do oatmeal?
my mum used to use a milk and water mix *better*
i use all milk to cook the oats (whichever kind we have at the time, preferring steel-cuts) plus a pinch of salt
then i add a blob of good butter on top of the oats in the bowl, and we add whatever we fancy at the time: H's ma'am is big on jelly/jam; i love nuts and fruit, maple syrup, but even without the extras it's good to go after the butter.
not something we eat all the time, just now and again.
