Stewart Rhodes, leader of the paramilitary group Oath Keepers, submitted a defense of his actions on 1/6/21. It hinges on his belief that President Trump was planning to invoke the Insurrection Act, and his group would then deploy themselves to help maintain order and crowd control.

He will be obliged to provide evidence to support that belief. He must have been pretty convinced if he was willing to spend thousands of dollars on weapons and matériel in preparation for weeks of paramilitary activities. Who was he in contact with? When did Trump invoking the Insurrection Act become more than a rumor? I’m sure that he’s prepared to name names in order to save his own ass.

Would the Insurrection Act authorize Trump to make an official militia of the Oath Keepers?

Probably not, but he’d do it anyway. Remember the unmarked vans and unbadged goon squads in late summer 2020?

I always suspected the reason the traitor in chief wanted "10,000" or "20,000" national guard members at the Capitol was so he could declare martial law when the frenzied mob HE whipped up did what they thought they were supposed to do.

I also believe that one of the reasons for rejecting a large national guard presence at the Capitol was because of legitimate concerns over the traitor in chief declaring martial law and suspending civilian rule during an attack, then nullifying the election while his traitorous cohorts in congress offered a fig leaf of legitimacy for what would have effectively been a military coup.

Fortunately there were decent Americans in positions of authority who likely recognized the potential threat, and other not quite so decent Americans who likely realized how ugly things would get if the traitor im chief's plans went forward. Things still got pretty ugly as it was, and the traitor in chief cheered on the carnage from the safety of the White House.

The more that comes out, the more I am convinced that we were a lot closer to the death of democracy than most people think.

Trump’s Defense Secretary Chris Miller did call 1,100 National Guard troops in to DC on 1/6, and an additional 6,200 later in the day. There was a continuous NG presence in DC until May 2021, with 26,000 NG members involved.

Yeah, but having "10,000" or "20,000" national guard members prepositioned at the Capitol on 1/6 may have changed the traitor in chief's calculus.

The fact that he was rebuffed over his NG request, and Pence's refusal to play along likely also factored into the traitor in chief's decision making.

It sort of seems like everything fell apart, and what happened on 1/6 was what was left of a bigger planned coup attempt. Definitely not a predictable situation that the traitor in chief could manage.

Joshua James, 34, of Arab, Alabama, pleaded guilty to seditious conspiracy charges on Wednesday as part of deal with prosecutors contingent on his cooperation with the U.S. government in their ongoing prosecution of defendants who were involved in the Jan. 6 attackon the U.S. Capitol.

The plea deal is the first of its kind for a Jan. 6 defendant and comes nearly a year after James was charged with impeding and obstructing Congress' affirmation of the Electoral College vote in the 2020 presidential election.

The plea agreement directly implicates Oath Keeper founder and militia leader Stewart Rhodes, among others, in a conspiratorial plot to stop the transfer of power ahead of President Joe Biden's inauguration, with Rhodes predicting "a bloody and desperate fight."

James is accused of providing protection to Roger Stone before storming the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot.

turmp diddled those people knowing they were looking for someone to give them credit for being militant. trump should go to prison with the rest of them for He and others like Bannon were the catalysts that put them in the Capitol. He still tries it today.
