The bill had bipartisan support but failed to pass the Higher Education committee on Tuesday, when 15 members voted to hold it for consideration. Eleven members, including three Democrats, voted against holding the bill.

Looks like more Republicans voted to hold it for further consideration than Democrats.

I find this 'I'm more compassionate than you are' mentality is so hypocritical. Neither the left or the right have sole dibs on compassion. In this race to self righteous fervor and in an attempt to outdo each other we should take the time to think this through, especially people who are heads of households. There is a system of laws in our country that regulates immigration. We are all too willing to conflate legal immigration with illegal immigration because it feels good.

Whether you choose to believe it or not our country is bordering financial ruin, it's blazing away right now but we're one major mishap away from a major catastrophe. Our national debt is 22 trillion dollars, that will never get payed off but the solvency of our nation depends on paying the interest on the debt which is 400 billion dollars annually and we have no choice on that bill, that has to be paid. New York city alone has a debt of 119 billion dollars in unfinanced liabilities and debt. Mayor De blasio just set aside 27 million dollars for educating illegal migrants. He is very generous with money we don't have. This is our money, our future. This money should be for our kids. That's not to say that some undocumented migrants are contributing their fair share but it's an irresponsible assumption that all are, we don't know who they are or how many or even how to tax them. It's like trying to pay a credit card bill without knowing what the amount of the bill is. This self righteous rep AOC just chased away Amazon from NYC, thousands of jobs and billions in revenue. NYC is being taxed into the ground and people are leaving for greener pastures, so as people leave the debt gets bigger and leave fewer people to pay it. Undocumented migrants are putting a strain on all our social systems. That's not being a racist that's a fact of reality.

There will come a time when our social networks will be so watered down and overburdened it won't be able to help anyone. The Bernie Sanders single payer system ( estimated 30 trillion/10 years ) would break the bank, why? because the feds can't do anything right. Just look at the VA, a microcosm of what the single payer system would look like. We are a nation of immigrants ( legal immigrants ) Ellis island type. We can understand their plight, they wish for a chance at the American dream, for a better life but when is enough enough. We can't bring all the world's poor to America, there has to be a measured way to bring people here. I think DACA is a done deal just make it happen but if we don't control this migration we will continue to have this problem over

Additionally... why does the republican federal government get to increase military spending by hundreds of billions of dollars... sending children out to die and become broken in an illegal Iraq war and then leave it to states to take care of them when they come home? Why isn't the VA fixed and financed with $ 100 billion including college aid?

Last... why is AOC self righteous because she was against Amazon not getting hundreds of millions of dollars in freebies? Also... how did AOC... a federal representative block a NYS and NYC initiative?

The return on investment was far greater for New Yorkers than compared to the subsidy ( freebies ) itself. Win Win for both entities. Both De Blasio and Cuomo were very pleased by the deal. It was criticism by AOC about the venture that compelled Amazon to locate elsewhere, I guess not being able to see the forest through the trees, very similar to your thought process, big business is the enemy and nothing good could come from it.

The legality of the Iraq war is still debated today.

The federal government could not effectively manage the VA and yet people think that they can manage a single payer system or medicare for all.
