I am new to writing and in need of some advice. I have what i consider to be a good start on a story for either the erotic couplings or group sex. Not sure where it falls yet. But I am afraid that I may be going a little too far into character development. Just looking for someone to give input on an unfinished piece.

That depends on what kind of story you want to write. Personally, I like to write pure smut, strictly describing various kinds of fun sex. I like this and it is what I do. I don't worry much about plot or character development or the other things that are supposed to go into a story. However, that's me. Characters can actually be overdeveloped, but is that is where you are going, a little too much might be better than too little.

As for category, try to avoid E/C. Almost half the stories on the site are there and they tend to get lost in the shuffle.

Soap Box

If you are just starting to write, I would say just free write it and see what happens. Find your little niche, and grow from there. And yes, avoid EC. And only go into the Loving Wives jungle if you brought your thick skin.

Bah! ;) They cannot.

Ok, seriously, Box is right. My definition of overdevelopment is the inclusion of trivial details that do not in any way change the story. For example, suppose the heroine's favorite color is blue. This might be worth including if she likes the color to such an extent she always wears blue or if her beau notices, preferable with being told :), and gives her a sapphire. If it doesn't change the story, what does it matter what her favorite color is? Same applies to the color of her eyes. And the size of her ;) shoes.

That said, Box is right again:
