I was reading a article this morning with a book review.Ah ,the dangers of such items, was its sentiments.I read another article from NYTimes I believe,9 days ago saying not to take the supplements.
The 1st article went on to say a child was hospitalized and the parents had her on 85 different things, kind of overdoing it I thought.
The 2nd article 9 days backmade sense to me.Beta Carotene is something to beware of,can give you gum disease. They learned how to synthesize it ,and the Chinese were selling it cheap,so they started replacing vitamin A with it.Now its in the one a day vitamin, but in a one a days defense,I feel its ameliorated with the 400 I U s of Vitamin D,which makes it twice as safe.
The article went on to say vitamin E wasn t the champion they say it is,either.Well my reply is they try to sell you the tocopheryl type, which is inferior, then they try and sell you the tocopherol acetate,a synthetic...Reputable advisors I have read say take the mixed form of tocopheral natural form of vitamin E.Most say take 400 I U of it too.I felt personally it was too strong, and 200 I U s was a more tolerated dose.
Ive been taking supplements and studying alternative/complementary medicine for the past 30 yrs.I feel even though I have to pay for them out of my own pocket, overall,I m getting superior medical treatment, having studied up on such things 30 yrs, next to going to the drs office .
The new kid on the block thats new and better than vitamin E is Alpha Lipoic Acid.It does what vitamin E does, but it ll recycle the anti oxidants in your system, and is also good for diabetic, type 1 and 2...helps heart issues like vitamin E was supposed to.
Ive been a member of the Life Extension Foundation for the past 15 yrs off n on.Its a non profit on the edge of Miami,in a suburb named Hollywood FL.membership is apx 82.50 a yr that they give you back in materials, and its like a crash course in integrative /complementary medicine, using stuff from the health food store outlets as a mainstream treatment. They mostly print in laymans language, and whats not you can look up in a med dictionary.
A 50 dollar 800 pg plus prevention and treatment book comes as well as 12 issues of their journal under that membership,a 24 hr support helpline,a website at http://www.lef.com where you could join on a c card. They have 20 world class docs on their advisory board as well as 20 world class scientists, and give the cutting edge info on med treatments. Also a 25% discount on their pharmaceutical grade supplements comes with membership.
Thats one of my best resources in my health and longlife resource pgs I put together as a charity fundraiser. For those who can afford it I recommend it.For those that can t ,the info in my health and longlife resource pgs can be referenced in their materials, backed by science/medical studies.I put pretty much put the grtst hits of whats available in said pgs, coupled to a 4 leaf clover or talisman set as a charity fundraiser, with lots of links to help save the price of them in said pgs.
In conclusion, the Life Extension Foundation said 80% of the rest of the world outside of the USA use health food store type nutritional Supplements as mainstream medicine.Further, they say Europe has gone back to using these things because synthetic drugs have a lot more adverse side effects ,and they believe synthetics may be responsable for the increased cancer rates.
