during the summer i cut back a lot on red meat and heavy types of meals and eat a lot of fish, chicken and fresh vegetbles. the other night i was in the mood for just vegetable so i put some fresh corn, four or five brussell sprouts, a red potato and a mushroom in some foil and threw it on the grill for a while. it was great.

while i was eating i started thinking about my eating habits and how i could improve them and this thought/question came up.

if you ate primarily vegetables and made sure to get some beans and rice like combos for those old complex carbs and then added some whole grain cereal with some 2 percent or skim milk would you a) get all the nutrition you needed and b) loose weight if you added just a little physical activity to your daily routine?
any pitfalls?

not that i need to loose any weight you understand (coughbullshit) but i am curious.

The only other thing I would add is Peanut butter or some type of soy for protein content outside of that it looks good. If I get a chance to talk to my aunt I will ask her about it to be sure.

Sounds good...make sure you eat enough protien tho! Good luck! :)

Physical activity is always good. It's usually best not to mix your proteins and carbs. So fish, chicken, meat works best with vegetables, though not with a potato. THat is if weight loss is your goal. Easy on the rice. Salads always work well during the summer. :)

Yes that's fine but not a plateful of meat and potatoes at the same time. It's better to have meat with vegetables for example, if weight loss is your goal.

I see a dietition, she never mentioned that either. I lost over 100 pounds mixing carbs and protein

wow that is so awesome EE :) gives me hope. i've lost half the weight i gained at school and it's only been a month, so... yay me :)

I have lost about eighty pounds and I still love and eat red meat. The only real change I made was no food after 7 pm.
Take Care,

Don't cut out carbs completely. Those fad diets aren't healthy. Just stay away from the white flours. Stick with whole grains.

Eat as much fish as you can. Fatty fishes like tuna and salmon are great heart food (sushi freak!).

Also watch WHEN you eat. Try not to eat after 8pm, or if you must, eat light. Keep your larger meals to breakfast and dinner.

They're all little things. But the most important thing to remember when dieting is you didn't put it on overnight, you shouldn't take it off that way. Rapid weightloss it very danerous and never lasts because you haven't really changed your habbits. Small steps last longer.

can you tell I've done this before? lol

ideally your meal should consist of half fruits and/or veggies, a quarter protein, and another quarter grain.

here is a thought for you, We just had morning tea in the office and it was Sponge Cake With Jam and Cream Freash whipped cream.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I had two slices.........

I think different things work for different people.
Amen. You have to be flexible and be ready to try different things and see how it affects your own body. Don't believe everything you read or hear. My sister's one of those people who reads something, believes it, and then tries to make everyone agree with her. She can't tell me why beef is ok, but pork is not, but it's one of her mantras.

Sounds like tantan is pushing (at least a version of) "fit for life" - not low-carb, but a food-combining thing. Protein is ok with veg, veg is ok with carbs, but protein is not ok with carbs. It's easiest when done vegetarian, but very restrictive otherwise. Like, what if you carefully eat your meat with just veggies, and then before it's left your stomach, you have a piece of toast?

Eat less - not always EASY, but it ALWAYS works. UncleJ - I suggest a vitamin supplement and plenty of water no matter what you do. Watch the desserts.

GOOD LUCK!

If you are really interested in going the vegetarian route, you need to make sure you get as much usable protein as possible. This means you need to eat foods with complementary amino acids so you get a complete protein and not short change yourself on any.

Examples would be combining legumes and grains, dairy and grains, or seeds and legumes (peanuts are a legume.)

It can seem like too much work, but once you understand the relationship it becomes simple.

Now to make that edible to me
Id use angel food cake (fat free)
Fresh strawberries, and non dairy whipped topping in a can

cut your fat and calories in half

Shmeer on the body of your choice and have at it.

removing too many carbs utterly screws up your blood chemistry, it is dangerous.

Now, is there enough real info in here that we can hijack this topic yet, or not?

I'm interested in enhancing the edibility of the already delectable Emerald_eyes.
I'm thinking of Cool Whip applied liberally...
