Couple M48, F46. Both attractive, 2 kids one left home, one at university. He plays sport, golf, cricket, rugby. She plays tennis, goes to gym. She is bored, joins local Amateur Dramatic society.

She is good, gets a lot of good roles, husband not interested, never sees any plays. Latest role, she is on stage, acting out a scene where she is locked out of house in just a towel. At some point this towel falls off, leaving her on stage, completely nude for a few seconds, in front of rest of cast, and 70-80 people in audience.

Did she intend to do this? Was it a complete accident? How does she feel about it? How does everyone else react?

I can’t decide which way to go, suggestions please.

This says, "disintegrating marriage" to me. My instinct is to write a redemption story. Something about the experience she's having makes Husband realize how much he will miss her if she leaves, and vice-versa.

Your summary above only says a couple of things about Husband: he's athletic, and he has lost interest in his wife. To make the story interesting, I would personally want to flesh him out a little. If you're a "pantser" (a person who just starts writing, without necessarily knowing how things will go or who the characters are), that could happen during the writing process.

My first thought was something different. It is a dream. The lady (or it would also work with a guy) has a dream where everything seems to be going wrong, ending with being the nude centerfold for everyone to see. Instead of the dream ending, they suddenly see the spark of lust in some of their eyes. Do they rush in? Does she take initiative?

Maybe she takes sweet revenge on some people she distastes, fucking them in retribution. In the dream it makes sense. They laugh at her, but now she rips off their clothes and fucks them for all to see. She'll feel empowered by fucking her worst enemies.

When she wakes up she is confused by the dream, maybe fucking her husband to both get the horny feeling and her guilt from sleeping with others in her dream out of her. It'll also sidestep a lot of consent issues, as it was all a dream anyway.

As for the original idea: it could be a real accident. Her reaction to it is professional, but it emboldens her as well. Initially it doesn't seem to have more consequences than a lot of admiration for her continuing the play so well.

Her improvisation where she uses her nude body is such a hit with the director (s)he changes the story to put it in. Now she feels this rush when she drops the towel, knowing how she directs every eye.

That could be it. Sometimes you don't need full on sex scenes. However, when she practiced the part with her on stage foil, in an early morning with no one around, she couldn't help but improvise once more...

I do have more back story, for both of them. I don't see it as a disintegrating marriage, they are in love, and have a good sex life. I like the idea of keeping the nudity in the play, and exploring the reactions of the village to her in daily life. I think of it as an exhibitionist story, rather than just sex. I'll keep playing with it, see where it goes.

If she were me, I'd be THINKING about "dropping" my towel but more thinking of ...if it does drop... I would both love it and dread it. TBH I'd practice a LOT with the mirror to "innocently" flash the audience bits of me under the towel without fully losing the towel. If I do lose the towel, I'd have mixed feelings and thoughts. I don't want to get into trouble in any way, but I hope, if I am shown exposed, I hope the audience gets a GOOD look at my naughty bits and like what they see. I'm hoping the audience believes it was part of the play and supposed to happen. I'd love it if after the play, the cast and director ask me to do it on purpose for the rest of the showings. This permission would REALLY relieve my worries of the first time and help me to look forward to the next performances.

More than ON stage, I'd be more inclined to be more daring BACKSTAGE. Backstage we are in a hurry, change in shared spaces and usually have little to no privacy. I'd HOPE the straight men backstage would manage to get eyefuls along the way of practices and performances.
