Well, it’s that time of year again…

I have tons of cute halter tops that I love to wear this time of year, and got a few more when I was at the mall yesterday… Thing is, I don’t have a bra that I can wear with them.

I’ve seen those ‘nubras’ online, and they look like what I’m looking for, they have the features I'm looking for
  • strapless
  • backless
  • two separate cups with center clasp
  • reusable
and come in a plain nude color, which is what I want.

I'm really not so sure I want to buy one, though... I would really prefer to try one on before buying. Also, I'm not sure about sizing, it would be a C or possibly a B cup, depending on the fit. I'd hate to get the wrong size, or for it not to work as I expected, especially since they do not accept returns.

So, I was wondering if any of you ladies have either had experience with the nubra products and could tell me how they worked for you and how they were for sizing, or better yet could recommend a similar product in a store where I could try it on first.

I thought I remembered seeing something at Target a few years back, but didn't see anything on their website, so maybe I was wrong or it was discontinued... I had a quick look in VS the other day too, but didn't find one...

Anyway.... thanks, guys....

I love the Nubra.

I purchased one to use with a backless dress I wore to the Christmas party where my husband works. It worked great! It feels very comfortable and the best part is, when you stick it, it sticks. So with the front closure, you can adjust the cleavage.

Also, since you can re-stick it, you can adjust it to work with so many different tops.

I bought a few more.

Hiya. I work at a bra shop and we sell something similar to what you're describing.

Basically, for halter tops I would always recommend a bra with adjustable straps - you can easily make most bras into a halter neck. Failing that a strapless bra. Failing that the bra that you suggest. This isn't because they aren't any good - they are fantastic! But there's a confidence issue as to whether the adhesive will slip and most women don't want to spend all day worrying about that (the adhesive is much stronger than your average elasto-plast but isn't infallible - I've heard some horror stories!).

Although we don't allow returns on these products (simply because once the adhesive strips are used the product is then un-saleable) we do have 'tester' sets to hold up to the breast before you buy to check the size. I do find that they come in fairly small cup sizes so you might want to go for the c-cup first. I'm going to assume that you're in America (I usually do on this site) so I can't suggest any actual stores that sell these to try on in the way I describe but maybe La Senza USA or some other shop do? That's a matter for you to find out.

Good luck and shop around. :rose:

May I ask why you'd like to wear a bra at all? I mean, if you're just more comfortable wearing a bra, then maybe that's the best choice for you, but if you're worried about your nipples or something, why not try Pasties? :)

I only had like two minutes to post my earlier comments, so let me say a bit more now that I have some time.

I'm a full C/small D. The only bra I wear anymore is the VS D. (VS finally convinced me that a C is a tad too small.) For the Nubra, I bought the medium D and the fit was fine.

I have to admit, I've only worn it that once, for the Christmas party and I knew going into it that if the bra slipped, I'd just go to the ladies room and toss it in the trash. My dress was sequined, so I didn't have to wear a bra. I just wanted the cleavage to look good since the dress was low cut.

The bra worked great. It really did. And I danced most of the night and got a little sweaty. It never slipped.

The directions suggest that you clean your skin with rubbing alcohol. I didn't. I just put it on freshly showered.

There was one thing I didn't like. It kinda created a little ripple along the top and inside top of my breasts. I restuck it lower and was able to cover it with my dress, but I could see where this might be a problem with a scoop neck.

I think that's everything. I hope this helps.

Thank you!

Yeah, I have tried the convertable ones, but they aren't too comfortable to me, and I am also really like the backless designs since a lot of the shirts are cut low in the back as well

Failing that a strapless bra.

Same thing...

Ah, see.. this is what I was wondering. I'm not looking for the bra to give me a lot of lift, and I don't want anything with padding... just something that will look and feel natural (but a little bit nicer, lol.)

Are most of the stories from women who were trying to really change their look? I mean, it's not like if the bra slipped loose I'd be hanging down to my knees or look as if i lost a cup size or two...

I'll have to check a few places... maybe even Frederick's will have something?

So the adhesive is on the bra itself, you don't apply it to your body or anything?

I could get away with no bra if I wanted to (I am at the moment) but I guess I just like the idea of a little extra cleavage...

So you've found them to run a little on the small size as well? Guess I would get the C.....

Nice to know it holds up like that. I guess you might not know since you've only worn it the one time, but I was wondering how it was for everyday use...

Maybe from suction or something? The adhesive pulling at your skin? Do you think it would be noticeable?

I have a NuBra and I love it. I am a B cup and I never had a problem with the adhesive failing or anything like that. (It is important to rinse off the adhesive after washing and to only wear it when your skin is clean to avoid breakdown of the adhesive) I'd suggest getting one.

I bought one from JC Penny and have had it for over two years (I wear it only occassionally and keep it in the plastic case it came in so it doesn't get cat hair/lint/etc. on it) and it still works great. I have only just started to notice just the tiniest amount of granulation around the edges of the adhesive. They're not prohibitively expensive so it's not a bad deal if you only have to replace them every few years.

My bust was too large for the NuBra to work properly, so I just use flower pasties. However, taping works wonders and is used by models and actresses everywhere to create cleavage in skimpy outfits.

They won't give you a lot of lift just some support so it's probably fine for you. You can adjust them for days when you want a bit more though - I think that's something really good about them.

It's more about the women that were using them for some sort of coverup because the top was so low and revealing. If that's the case then you'd be best off using 'tit tape' too, but it sounds like you'd be okay. As silly as it sounds I tell my customers about my dad's colostomy bag which is stuck on with something similar but a lot stronger than elastoplast and will never fall off in the shower or whatever and I would suggest that the adhesive that they use on these bras are something similar.

I really have no idea where you'd find them - maybe somebody from the USA will be able to help there.

So the adhesive is on the bra itself, you don't apply it to your body or anything?

There are two different types that we sell - one is made out of a jelly material and the adhesive is part of the bra itself. Although they're reuseable they generally don't last as long as the material type that we sell which has see-through plastic wings at the side. They come with adhesive tabs to attach to the wings which can be resused in themselves but there are replacements available (and a few provided in the box).

Nice to know it holds up like that. I guess you might not know since you've only worn it the one time, but I was wondering how it was for everyday use...

I suppose it really depends what you mean by every day use and how active you will be in the day. Just a days shopping will be fine but maybe going on a hiking trip or some such would be too much strain.
