Wayne LaPierre Scrambles To Avoid Jail Time After Court Docs Show NRA Is In Financial Ruin

Wayne LaPierre, who was re-elected as the executive vice president and CEO of the National Rifle Association after a bitter campaign, has taken the nation’s most prominent pro-gun lobby from an electoral kingmaker to the edge of financial ruin. According to previously unreported allegations in court documents, NRA is tens of millions of dollars in the red amid numerous legal woes and investigations that have exposed its questionable financial dealings. Now, the longtime pro-gun lobbyist hopes his lawyers can “keep him out of jail.”

The situation is so dire that LaPierre and other NRA executives have urged laid-off employees to seek public assistance benefits, according to Salon.

The details of the NRA’s alleged corruption and scandal are coming to light in several court cases across the country and in the work of investigative journalists from NRA Watch, which published the documents in full.

Welcome to Wayne's World! :D

New York attorney general seeks to dissolve NRA in suit accusing gun rights group of wide-ranging fraud and self-dealing

The chief executive of the National Rifle Association and several top lieutenants engaged in a decades-long pattern of fraud to raid the coffers of the powerful gun rights group for personal gain, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday by the New York attorney general, draining $64 million from the nonprofit in just three years.

In her lawsuit, Attorney General Letitia James called for the dissolution of the NRA and the removal of CEO Wayne LaPierre from the leadership post he has held for the past 39 years, saying he and others used the group’s funds to finance a luxury lifestyle.

She also asked a New York court to force LaPierre and three key deputies to repay NRA members for the ill-gotten money and inflated salaries that her investigation found they took.

James accused the NRA leaders of flouting state and federal laws and signing off on reports and statements they knew were fraudulent, while diverting millions of dollars away from the NRA’s charitable mission to benefit themselves and their allies.

The attorney general requested that the court bar the four men — LaPierre, general counsel John Frazer, former treasurer Woody Phillips and former chief of staff Joshua Powell — from ever serving in a leadership position for a New York charity in the future.

“The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets,” James said in a statement.

Her investigation, which began in February 2019, found “a culture of self-dealing, mismanagement, and negligent oversight at the NRA that was illegal, oppressive, and fraudulent.”

First they got caught laundering money for the Russians. Now they’ve been caught stealing millions of dollars in charitable contributions!

Yes! They should be dissolved! They’re not a civil rights group! They’re a criminal conspiracy!

After years of denying allegations of lax financial oversight, the National Rifle Association has made a stunning declaration in a new tax filing: Current and former executives used the nonprofit group’s money for personal benefit and enrichment.

"For years, Wayne LaPierre and his lieutenants skirted the law and pocketed millions from NRA coffers to fund lavish lifestyles that included private jets, pricey vacations, expensive meals and no-show contracts,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said this week. “Mr. LaPierre’s reimbursement of just a fraction of the millions he personally profited from indicates how the NRA went unchecked under his leadership.”

The New York suit alleges that LaPierre funneled personal expenses through the NRA’s former public relations and advertising firm, Ackerman McQueen, and failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal income. Executives at Ackerman McQueen have said that all of their financial arrangements were approved by LaPierre.

James said in August that she was referring her findings to the IRS. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that the agency was investigating LaPierre for possible criminal tax fraud related to his personal taxes.

I have owned guns forever and I would never join a gun organization. Never put your name on anything that says you own a gun. Safety first.

Fascist traitors.

I haven't been so happy about a group breaking up since the Gestapo.

Gestapo is back and re-branded as "ICE"....it's BoBo's favorite fascist organization! I suspect he'd join it in an instant if it weren't for his "permanent disability" (passing out under pressure....he's the human equivalent of a 'fainting goat')

Quite sad considering his constant loathing of all things Hispanic.

ICE is the equivalent of the Gestapo?

Where the fuck are their ovens and why aren't you there fighting to shut them down?

ICE is the equivalent of the Gestapo?
Yup.

Where the fuck are their ovens?
BoBo squeals about that too. You two are ignorant about history. The ovens were a late addition to the concentration camps. For the moment, the camps simply rip children away from mothers, never to be seen again. "Cruelty is the point". I can understand why you and BoBo don't feel that horror, seeing as both of you lack the ability to father children.

and why aren't you there fighting to shut them down?
America held a referendum on these camps earlier this month. They won and the camps will be closed down in January, hopefully.

Rob loves to make shit up to cover for the fact that he can't support his insane assertions.

US Customs (ICE) isn't gestapo and having borders isn't Nazism, no matter how many times you or any of the other open borders nut jobs try to pretend otherwise.... it's hyperbole at a comical level :D

Open BordersDownSouth shows his true colors yet again.

You mean the camps the Obama/Biden administration STARTED??? LOL having borders and US Customs was ok when Obama was using them to detain, process and deport record numbers illegal immigrants.

Why would Biden stop enforcing our customs and immigration laws Rob??

That would be a direct dereliction of his duties and a violation of his oath of office.....not that you care much for those oaths ;) but we still have some rule of law here. You and yours haven't made it a total 3rd world shit hole yet.

So..., the ovens are coming.

:nods:

Have you put in a bid for the contract? It should be lucrative...

You know, before the ovens, early on, starting in early 1940,
your innocents, or at least, our moral equivalent as you seem
to indicate, were already establishing Jewish ghettos and work
camps for those who failed to go along to get along, but you
probably consider that some sort of revisionist History to absolve
the United States of the most horrendous human rights violations.

You would think that all of that repression and evil would retard
the influx of minority immigrants and hasten the departure of
the "undocumented," oppressed and brutalized masses, I mean,
it's not Like east Germany where we erect walls to keep them in.

Detention camps are not ovens!

You cannot even prove they were the precursor because
they probably didn't exist in 1944 Germany either...

I see, so putting kids in cages is a good thing, because Obama built them, nobody objected, and Trump approved.

Typical deflection

I find it interesting that when faced with topics such as this Republicans always seem to find ways to debate something else. Anything else! I have to laugh at those who are still trying to defend the NRA, after being fleeced, after seeing all their money go to funding the extravagant lifestyles of Wayne and friends. Apparently some people really do like the taste of shit sandwiches. I wonder how many true believers will double or triple their donations, seeing as how Wayne needs your money more than ever?

Libertarian...the new lie...I am a Libertarian, so nothing they do reflects on me. Sure i voted for Trump...but his policies don't reflect on my beliefs. Yet no matter what the topic is...no matter which thread...there they are defending the actions of the Republican party...and not the Libertarian party. How can this be?

Libertarian...the new lie...I am a Libertarian, so nothing they do reflects on me.

How is that a lie??

Do you support EVERYTHING EVERY (D) says and supports? Or is the DNC more of a group of various lefties that you don't agree with everything but generally can find common ground with??

Liberals aren't any different in that regard than leftist.

We got neo-liberals and classical liberals, libertarians and since the (D)'s are chasing them off for not actually being lefties, the social liberals like myself are now voting (R) as well.

Sure i voted for Trump...but his policies don't reflect on my beliefs.

Largely not.....he's just not openly hostile towards them like most (D)'s are.

Yet no matter what the topic is...no matter which thread...there they are defending the actions of the Republican party...and not the Libertarian party. How can this be?

Because much like the communist and socialist parties, their attempt to break away from the lefty coalition that is the DNC results in EVERYONE on their side getting hosed and nobody getting anything.

(R)'s are the coalition of liberals, of which libertarians are a part of....they know if they want to preserve and enhance individual liberty that the left seeks to destroy? They better hold their nose and go vote for some neo-liberals like Trump, classical liberals like Ted Cruz etc. they might not totally agree with on all things but they are totally antithetical to all of them either like the authority and control loving (D)'s.

You are one seriously delusional numpty.

No, unlike you I just understand liberalism is a defined political ideology with specific ideals and principals, ones you generally deride at every opportunity and have openly declared a "toxicshitsludge ideology" .

Obviously, as they go against the inherently authoritarian nature of the "progressive" leftist politics you prefer.

Liberalism, political doctrine that takes protecting and enhancing the freedom of the individual to be the central problem of politics.

NRA facing ‘embarrassing’ court hearing in Texas as it attempts to declare bankruptcy

"Now, the NRA's top executives are soon likely to take the stand in a Dallas courtroom, a potentially bruising public display, in a federal hearing scheduled to open April 5 to determine whether the organization will be allowed to declare bankruptcy, as it requested earlier this year," the newspaper reported. "The bankruptcy proceedings are likely to reveal embarrassing new details about the organization's internal workings and extravagant spending. Already, filings associated with the process have documented that the group was informed by the IRS that it owes $3.4 million in taxes dating to 2014 and that it paid for mosquito control at LaPierre's home, citing the expense as intended for 'security purposes.'"

John Feinblatt, the president of Everytown for Gun Safety, a leading advocate of gun regulation, mocked the declining political power of the NRA.

"Lawmakers who used to run away from the issue of gun safety now run on it, and a big reason for that is the sharp decline of the NRA," Feinblatt said. "In just a few short years, the NRA has fallen from perhaps the most powerful political group in America to a bankrupt shadow of their former selves — all while endangering millions of lives."

Days before the Boulder massacre, the NRA bragged about overturning a Boulder ban on assault weapons.
