I think I mentioned a while back that I had downloaded the entire N.E.E.T.S. Course. (Navy Electricity and Electronics Training Series.

I was having problems studying it though because it's on my computer. I just can't sit there staring at a screen for long periods of time.

Then I hit upon an idea. Why not have it printed out at someplace like Kinko's? Seemed like a grand idea until I counted the pages and figured out the cost. It would run me over $270.00 for the job. Instead I picked up a couple of ink cartridges for my printer and sat down at the computer.

139 double sided pages and most of an afternoon later the first module is printed. I'm thinking I'll print each module as I need it.

Now I can sit down and study.

Careful on those double sided prints. I did one once and the printer grabbed a couple of sheets every so often and lordy it was confusing.

Long live the printed page.......

I also find it hard to read or study from a 'puter screen. Thankfully I found several sources on the net for used books. Amazon often has real deals in their Marketplace section. Experienced Books was also great but appear to have folded.

At Amazon, my record for penny pinching is a copy of an astronomy text, current edition, that Amazon was happy to sell for $179.95. It was available used for...one cent.

If it was on .PDF, as most of the Army courses are, would you have considered using a Kindle? It would have been cheaper than the printing at Kinkos and a one time purchase. You could download multiple courses to it. I am considering doing that with some Army courses and many of the LIT works that I have collected. Certainly beats a computer screen.

A kindle would work but there is a small problem with that. I don't have a Kindle or other type of E-Reader. (I can't justify that expense right now. Mainly because the wife would want one as well. Maybe when their prices come down a bit more.)

Ah well. I'll just print it out as I come to the next section.

LOLOL

I've had printers that did that so I just hand feed it. This isn't as big a deal as it sounds as my printer isn't designed to do double sided printing anyways. (HP Deskjet D2430)

???????????

It's what the Navy Calls a Non Resident Training Course. Basicly it gives you a good general education in Electricity and Electronics. For specialized training you have to go to classes. (It's Public Domain by the way.) It consists of 25 modules totaling some 4950 pages.
