Police arrest gang for Heathrow robbery
by pa news

Now that's a shame.

In February this year a gang carried out a non-violent robbery at Heathrow Airport and got away with £4.6 million in foreign currency.

The crime was so audacious and so well carried out, making a mockery of Heathrow's security systems that many people gave the robbers a silent cheer.

It was like one of those comedy crime movies Hollywood does so well.

Then five weeks later the same gang carried out exactly the same crime, using exactly the same methods as they had the first time around. This time stealing £2 million in foreign curreny. That was too much for the British public and the cheer was even louder.

It was seeing the authorites made fools of twice in a few weeks that made it so comical.

Now they're caught...

Ah well. We'll all be waiting for the movie to be made...

There's got to be a decent story there somewhere...

:)

didnt read that how did they get caught ??

Yeah when i saw the original piece about the Heathrow job I thought fair play - took a bit of bollocks and they got away with it sort of like the old great train robbers

I saw it on the Netscape Browser's news section this morning...

Full Report:

" Flying Squad detectives have detained a gang suspected of carrying out a £2 million robbery at Heathrow Airport.

They have arrested 12 people - 10 men and two women - in dawn raids at addresses across London and recovered some of the cash.

The suspects, all believed to be Asian and aged between 21 and 37, were being questioned at three separate police stations in the capital.

They were arrested at homes in Norwood Green, Southall, Northolt, Isleworth, and Hounslow and the money was found stored at two of the addresses.

In the heist in March two men struck as two silver cash boxes containing US currency were being transferred from a South African Airlines to a security van in the "airside" area of Terminal 1.

The van driver, who is believed to be among those arrested, told police he was forced to drive out of the airport with a knife at his throat and the robbers then transferred the cash boxes to another van.

Other people who worked at the airport were also believed to be among those arrested and Scotland Yard officers were continuing to search a number of residential and business properties.

The heist happened just five weeks after a strikingly similar raid at Heathrow in which robbers got away with £4.6 million in foreign currency when they hijacked a British Airways security van in the airside area at Terminal 4.

Detectives were understood to be keeping an "open mind" about links between the two heists.

Detective Chief Superintendent John Coles said: "Today's arrests are the culmination of a two month pro-active operation by the Flying Squad. This robbery was one of the biggest to take place in recent years."

No you cretin...

The whole area is Asian (I should know I live here) and it would have been surprising if they hadn't been.

We all wanted them to get away with it...

You must remember we're not so hung up about race over here as you are over there...

:D

What was that you were saying on a nother thread about the amazing security at the airports in the EU?
